About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Mechanical & Engineering Services to lead the delivery, development and compliance of mechanical, electrical, gas and water safety services across our housing stock and corporate property portfolio. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Repairs & Compliance, you will provide professional leadership across a diverse service area, ensuring resident safety, statutory compliance, driving service improvement, and overseeing the successful delivery of capital and revenue programmes. This is a high-profile leadership role with responsibility for major projects, contractor performance, budget management, and the implementation of innovative engineering solutions that support safe, sustainable and efficient buildings.

About The Team

You will lead a dedicated team of technical professionals and administrative support staff, responsible for maintaining and improving critical engineering services across the borough. The service works closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including internal departments, contractors, consultants, supply chain partners and elected members, to ensure the highest standards of safety, compliance and customer service. Managing a team of about 23 staff, subject to growth and review, and significant service budgets, you will foster a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement while championing Haringey’s values of being caring, collaborative, community-focused, courageous and creative.

About You

You will be a qualified and/or suitably experienced engineering professional with substantial background and experience leading complex mechanical and engineering services within a large organisation. Whilst social housing experience would be an advantage, extensive knowledge of building services, compliance requirements, project delivery and contract management, are essential, and you will possess the confidence to provide expert advice, influence senior stakeholders, secure funding, and drive strategic change. You will be an inspiring leader with demonstrable experience in motivating and developing teams, managing competing priorities, and delivering high-quality outcomes in a challenging environment. Strong communication skills, sound commercial awareness, financial acumen, and a commitment to equality, diversity and service excellence will be key to your success in this role.
