  • Location: Westbourne School, Sutton in Ashfield, NG17 2EL
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30am - 4:00pm
  • Salary: Up to £48,000 per annum depending on experience (not pro rata)
  • Contract: Permanent, Term Time only
  • Start: September 2025
  • Interview: 22 May 2025

About the role

The Headteacher is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Head of Maths to join this thriving specialist SEMH School. Responsible to the Assistant Headteacher, you will be an enthusiastic, flexible, and determined individual who shares our values and is looking to develop their career in this specialist area.

Who we are looking for

Ideally, we are looking for a qualified Teacher of Maths with a few years' experience; however, we will happily consider applications from NQTs who have the ambition and desire. Experience within an SEMH/SEN specialist provision is desirable but not essential; we are open to applications from those working in mainstream or college settings.

Subject specialism is essential, as is knowledge of the current curriculum. Training and development will be provided based on the school's needs, the candidate's skills, and career aspirations.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Plan and teach well-structured, balanced, interesting, and inspiring lessons.
  2. Manage classes effectively, using approaches appropriate to pupils' needs to motivate them.
  3. Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe working environment.
  4. Understand how to assess the relevant subject and curriculum areas, including statutory assessment requirements.
  5. Manage and motivate staff within your department.
Essential Requirements
  • QTS
  • Teaching experience in Maths in a specialist or mainstream setting.
  • A dedicated work ethic to meet the needs of all pupils.
  • Passion for making learning effective and enjoyable.
  • Qualified in subject specialism.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
