Job summary

Eurostar International, based at Temple Mills Depot in Leyton, is seeking a Head of Maintenance & Availability to lead the Rolling Stock fleet's reliability, availability and performance. The role requires guiding capacity improvements and depot modernisation to support a new train fleet while ensuring current fleets meet life-span objectives.

Qualifications

• Degree level qualification in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Experience in a train depot in technical/leadership roles (min 10 years).

• Knowledge of depot operations, capacity planning, and delivery.

An exciting opportunity awaits you as Head of Maintenance & Availability in our Rolling Stock department. The Head of Maintenance & Availability plays a key role delivering the reliability, availability, and performance of the fleet. In this role you will mitigate capacity constraints, support depot modernisation to accommodate a new train fleet, whilst ensuring current fleets meet life-span objectives. The expected role outputs will be aligned with Eurostar Groups safety, environmental, and customer service objectives.

This permanent position is based in at our Temple Mills Depot in Leyton, with the expectation you attend site 4 days per week.

We’re looking for someone to:

• Lead all Maintenance & Availability activities to ensure safe, reliable, and punctual train service delivery.
• Drive depot operational performance, fleet availability, and reliability to meet commercial and transport plan commitments.
• Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, maintenance standards, and company policies.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase depot capacity, support fleet growth, and prepare for future operational demands.
• Manage budgets, workforce planning, and resource allocation to deliver cost-effective operations.
• Build, lead, and develop high-performing teams, including succession planning and capability development.
• Foster strong relationships with key stakeholders across Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, People, and external partners.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives, operational modernisation programmes, and industrialisation strategies across the depot.

You’ll need...

• Degree level qualification in Engineering or a related technical discipline
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in a train depot in technical and leadership roles, preferably supported by multiple years in a core Engineering function
• Significant leadership experience within train depot operations
• Strong track record of managing maintenance operations, fleet availability, and technical performance.
• Advanced knowledge of depot operations, maintenance regimes, capacity planning, and operational delivery.
• Proven ability to lead large teams, drive performance, and build a positive safety-first culture.
• Excellent stakeholder management, relationship-building, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Strong commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, forecasts, and operational costs.
• Highly developed analytical, planning, problem-solving, and disruption management capabilities.
