Job summary

Ministry of Justice’s National Probation Service seeks a senior leader to manage resources and steer operational and strategic direction within a Local Delivery Unit or similar unit. The post represents the Deputy Director with external agencies and staff, with a focus on equality, confidentiality and on-call responsibilities.

The role covers cross-functional leadership across budgets, partnerships and HR functions, including MAPPA oversight and safeguarding duties.

Qualifications

• Significant experience at middle manager level with responsibilities in at least two settings.
• Substantial experience in line management of staff, including supervision, appraisal and motivating.
• Experience of delivering presentations to multi-agency audiences and large groups.
• Experience of managing budgetary control to support local operational requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead, innovate and develop local strategies in line with the national strategic framework.
• Effectively lead cluster operational delivery and contribute to national operational delivery and priorities.
• Lead the NPS in local strategic partnerships and ensure representation within wider partnership frameworks.
• Represent the NPS at national partnerships and development meetings in line with delegated lead responsibilities.
• Manage devolved budgets in accordance with financial procedures and budget delegation.
• Oversee MAPPA locally in conjunction with responsible authorities including chairing MAPPA level 3 meetings.
• Deputise for the Deputy Director as required in the LDU / operational unit.
• Work with MoJ/NOMS Communications on a range of products.
• Implement NOMS equality strategy.
• Carry out agency responsibilities for victims and safeguarding children duties.
