Job description

Games Workshop is looking for a Head of IT on a 2-year fixed-term contract to take overall responsibility for our global IT and customer technology capability, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. The role has a broad remit spanning our core technology estate, information security, major systems change and the technology behind our customer-facing digital platforms, including warhammer.com

We need someone who can understand what Games Workshop needs now, anticipate what we will need in the future and make good decisions about how technology supports the long-term success of the business. You’ll develop and deliver our global IT plan, making sure our technology is secure, resilient, scalable and useful, whilst ensuring we spend money wisely and get real value from our investments.

You’ll have overall responsibility for our core IT environment and information security, advising our senior management on technology, security, risk and investment.

Helping to support our Senior Programme Manager and their team, together you’ll keep our significant technology programmes moving, openly tackling the challenges that come with major change and ensure that we continue to make rapid progress.

You’ll work closely with our Head of Information Security, IT Manager, Customer Technology Manager and IT Procurement and Vendor Manager to continually improve service, resilience and security across the Group. You’ll also be accountable for the stability and support of warhammer.com and our other customer-facing technologies, working across Games Workshop to find practical and innovative ways technology can improve the experience we give our customers.

Just as importantly, you’ll be responsible for developing an outstanding IT and Digital team. You’ll set clear expectations, keep score and develop the capability we need for the future, including creating opportunities for talented staff to progress. You’ll be prepared to challenge when something isn’t good enough and make difficult decisions when needed, whilst doing it in a way that lifts morale rather than destroys it.

You’ll already have operated at a senior level in a substantial and complex organisation and successfully led significant technology change. You’ll bring strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, cloud technologies and service delivery, with enough breadth across information security, digital technology and major programmes to know what good looks like. You’ll be astute and evidence-based, able to identify what matters, explain complex technology in plain English and make clear, well-reasoned decisions.

How you behave here matters. Our culture is built around honesty, humility and courage. That means striving to understand what the business needs, recognising where things can be better and having the courage to do something about it. We value people who make clear plans, openly confront the challenges involved in delivering them and then cheerfully get on with it.

Games Workshop exists to make the Warhammer hobby and our business ever better. We want to make the best fantasy miniatures in the world, engage and inspire our customers and sell our products globally at a profit – and we intend to do that forever. If you’re an experienced technology leader who wants the opportunity to shape technology across our global business, we’d love to hear from you.

Working at Games Workshop

At Games Workshop we are looking for people who will do their best to understand the needs of the company and to put those needs first when they are at work. Because of this we believe that what you are like, hence the attitude you show to work and the way you choose to behave is even more important than your skills and experience.

The Warhammer World site is based just outside of Nottingham city centre and benefits from a nearby tram stop and free onsite car parking.

In return for your hard work, you will receive

  • 33 days holiday per year (including public holidays)
  • matching contributory pension scheme up to 7.5%
  • profit share bonus (subject to GW meeting profit targets)
  • option to join our Share Save scheme
  • staff discount of between 25% and 50% on our products
