About the Role

Manage LM’s and LMUK’s senior engagement strategy across Whitehall and Westminster to create a permissive environment for lines of business to conduct business. Maximise political customer intimacy to facilitate understanding and influence thereby enhancing brand and reputation and increasing P/win on major captures.

  • Establish and maintain enduring, inclusive relationships with key stakeholders including Ministers, SPADs and senior civil service, creating mutually beneficial partnerships and taking full advantage of internal and external synergies
  • Political advice to the Chief Executive and the wider business on key interactions such as Select Committee appearances, round table engagements, briefings.
  • Management of relationships with think tanks and academia.
  • Interactions with devolved administrations.
  • Formal reporting of lobbying where required in the UK
  • Liaison with the US Embassy in political matters.
  • Integration with wider Global Business Development & Strategy, especially in regard to NATO and Europe.
  • Co-ordination with Business Development teams in developing strategic possibilities with key stakeholders for Lockheed Martin
  • Supporting high level capture campaigns with a focus on Government Administration stakeholder’ priorities and concerns
  • Leading policy inputs to HMG in policy, regulatory and legislative areas
  • Leading inputs to HMG on Select Committee Evidence Requests
  • Line Manager for Government Affairs team
  • Member of the LMUK Leadership team.

Key Business Objectives
  • Enhance brand and reputation: support to LRP and Growth
  • Revenue/Sales Responsibility: No support to LMUK LRP
  • Primary Customer/External Interaction: Multiple engagements across Whitehall and Westminster; extending to Think Tanks and informal influencers as and when required
  • Customer Familiarity: Necessity: civil service or strong previous track record of interaction with government departments as a core competency required

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Ideally require a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and capability typically achieved through around 6 years of industry experience. Will also consider individuals with equivalent experience / combined education.
  • Excellent established understanding and relationships within Government at highest levels in particular across MOD, Home Office, DBT, Treasury, Cabinet Office, and associated communities.
  • Exceptional communicator with the ability to clearly prepare, influence and communicate messages that motivate and inspire action at all levels.
  • Knowledge of ICT, military, civil service, civil and security intelligence domains within the UK and ideally overseas environment.
  • Thought leader and strategic thinker with the ability to translate strategy into clearly articulated plans.
  • Committed to personal excellence, ethical behaviour and integrity.
  • A background or understanding of Politics and/or Political Environments (e.g. Foreign Office and Home Office) is highly desirable.
  • Flexibility to work and influence in large multinational corporate environments.
  • Ability to carry out targeted research and analysis and interpret result, with experience of interacting with “Think Tanks” an advantage
  • The successful candidate will have an established and deep understanding of relationships within UK Government and be able to contextualize them in the wider global market
  • Strong networks across all UK Government departments (not just MOD), at both working and senior levels
  • Ability to understand and shape role and inter-play of politics on industry
  • Analytical approach providing ability to understand, develop and deliver effective customer value propositions
  • Exceptional communicator with the ability to prepare, influence and communicate clear messages that motivate and inspire action at all levels, both internally and externally
  • International experience an advantage
  • Strong analytical capabilities
  • Able to view a particular situation or campaign from more than one perspective
  • Strong team player with the ability where appropriate to hold a team together under the most adverse conditions in business development campaigns
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken covering both one on one and group presentations
