Job summary

Michael Page Legal in London is seeking a Head of Governance to lead governance, regulatory engagement and compliance for an affordable housing provider. The role combines board stewardship with strategic oversight to enable high-quality decision making.

Based in London with hybrid working (4 days in the office), the post is a permanent appointment offering a competitive salary and benefits package. You will act as Company Secretary to the Board and advise the Executive Team.

Qualifications

• Senior governance, performance reporting or compliance experience in housing.
• Strong understanding of Regulator of Social Housing Standards.
• Experience preparing high-quality board papers and regulatory returns.
• Excellent planning and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as Company Secretary for Board and committee meetings; prepare Board materials, minutes and actions.
• Advise Board and Executive Team; be trusted advisor.
• Provide governance service meeting regulatory requirements and enable decision making.
• Ensure compliance with the BPF Code of Governance.
• Act as contact for Regulator of Social Housing and lead regulatory inspections.
• Lead Board effectiveness reviews, NED appraisals and succession planning.

Role:

• Act as Company Secretary for Board and committee meetings; arranging, hosting and preparing all Board materials and associated minutes and actions
• Be a trusted advisor to the Board, Committees and Executive Team
• Provide a high-quality governance service to meet regulatory requirements and enable high quality decision making
• Ensure compliance with the British Property Federation (BPF) Code of Governance
• Act as point of contact for the Regulator of Social Housing and lead on regulatory inspections
• Lead Board effectiveness reviews, NED appraisals and succession planning

Essential:

• Senior-level experience in governance, performance reporting or compliance within housing
• Strong understanding of the Regulator of Social Housing's Standards
• Experience preparing high-quality board papers, reporting dashboards and regulatory returns
• Highly organised and detail-oriented with excellent planning and project management skills
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent stakeholder management, able to influence at board and operational levels
