Description du poste

About the role

Our fundraising has grown significantly over the last five years. We built a vibrant local brand and invested in a diverse mix of income streams, and the charity now raises around £1.3 million a year. We want to build on that foundation, and this role will lead the next phase.

As Head of Fundraising you will be a member of the senior leadership team and accountable for all of Caring in Bristol's income: individual giving, trusts and grants, corporate partnerships, community and events fundraising, and a new major donor programme. You will also oversee our brand, campaigns and communications. You will work closely with the Co-Directors, the Finance Manager and our fundraising trustee.

This is a team-building role. Our fundraising team has recently gone through significant change and you will build a team to create a culture where fundraisers can do their best work. We are looking for a leader with a track record of building high-performing teams, hitting ambitious targets and growing income sustainably, and who is excited about taking a strong foundation to the next level.

We offer flexibility over how and when you work, a relaxed and collaborative culture, and real freedom to make the role your own.

Key responsibilities

1. Strategy and leadership

  • Develop, and lead delivery of, a fundraising & marketing strategy that enables Caring in Bristol to meet its strategic objectives and grow income sustainably.

  • Work with the Co-Directors, Finance Manager and wider leadership team to understand the charity’s evolving funding needs, and adapt fundraising plans to meet them.

  • Set income targets, budgets and forecasts with the Finance Manager, and monitor performance against them.

  • Report regularly on income, performance and risk to the Co-Directors and Board of Trustees, and work with the fundraising trustee.

  • Attend Board meetings and contribute to strategic discussions and delivery of the Business Plan.

2. Building and leading the team

  • Build a fundraising team that fits our strategy, budget and ambitions, and lead its recruitment and onboarding.

  • Line manage the Head of Trusts and Grants, Fundraising Manager and Communications Lead (and any future roles), with overall responsibility for the fundraising team and any contractors or freelancers.

  • Set clear objectives, hold regular one-to-ones, and support the wellbeing, development and performance of everyone you manage.

  • Create a culture of collaboration, learning and accountability across the team, in line with our values and trauma-informed approach.

3. Income generation

  • Individual giving and public fundraising: lead delivery of outstanding, innovative appeals, campaigns and partnerships that meet our public fundraising targets, and develop engaging supporter journeys that build loyalty and lifetime value.

  • Major donors: build and implement a major donor programme as a substantial new funding route, including prospect research, a cultivation pipeline, stewardship, and personal involvement in building relationships and making asks.

  • Trusts and grants: oversee our trusts and grants strategy, supporting the team to secure and steward funding from charitable trusts, foundations and statutory sources.

  • Corporate and community: oversee corporate partnerships, community fundraising and events, ensuring they deliver return on investment and fit our brand.

  • Keep a view across all streams and identify new opportunities, such as legacy giving, where they fit our strategy.

4. Brand, communications and supporter engagement

  • Lead on the development of the CiB brand building both trust and awareness in the local area and nationally

  • Oversee supporter communications, including events, mailings, newsletters, social media, digital content, PR and press.

  • Work with the Communications Lead to develop and deliver the CiB’s communication strategy, and ensure we work with services and volunteers to tell our story powerfully, ethically and with dignity, with consent and care for the people we support.

5. Data, systems and compliance

  • Oversee and develop our CRM database so that it is accurate, up to date and used to inform decisions.

  • Lead on compliance with the Fundraising Code of Practice, advertising standards and all other relevant legislation, and manage the risks associated with our fundraising.

  • Lead on organisational GDPR compliance, working with our board member who has professional expertise in this area.

  • Make sure income generation, marketing and communications policies and procedures are in place and reviewed regularly.
