Responsibilities
- Strategy Development
- Develop the freight strategy for the business, considering the current competitive environment, key clients, and business opportunities.
- Collaborate with other parts of the business to identify opportunities and develop suitable products for the freight market.
- Work with FOCs and NR to understand market demand and anticipate future requirements.
- Identify suitable partners to develop initiatives for the freight market.
- Seek innovative solutions leveraging internal expertise.
- Build a pipeline of freight opportunities for pursuit.
- Manage re-leasing of existing assets.
Customer Relations
- Maintain thorough knowledge of freight customers' businesses and anticipate future plans.
- Build close relationships with key personnel, freight end users, potential suppliers, DfT, and other stakeholders.
- Stay informed about the freight market and evaluate its impact on the business and potential opportunities.
- Keep abreast of political, strategic, personnel, or regulatory changes in freight markets.
- Create stakeholder maps and engagement plans for each opportunity.
Commercial
- Support the Chief Investment Officer in defining and leading a commercial strategy that balances risk and profit, supporting reinvestment.
- Collaborate with the bid development team on new business opportunities.
- Market the company’s capabilities and maintain its profile with stakeholders.
Specific Requirements
- Degree, HND, or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
- Extensive knowledge of railway industry rolling stock, components, organization, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of freight commercial and supply contracts.
- Financial and economic knowledge, including finance, funding, and currency.
- Understanding of tax, pricing, legal issues, and overall financial acumen.
- Knowledge of key stakeholders within the freight industry.
