Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) is seeking a Head of Estates to lead Hard FM, safety, compliance and resilience across East Surrey Hospital in Redhill.
You'll shape preventative maintenance, asset management and data-driven decision-making, while developing teams and delivering capital enhancements, including new facilities and theatre improvements. This is a senior leadership role within NHS infrastructure.
Location: East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, Surrey
Contract: Permanent | Full-time | On-site
An opportunity to shape the future of NHS estates services, not simply manage what's already there.
What would you change if you had the opportunity to influence how a hospital estate is managed, maintained and developed for the future?
At Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH), that opportunity is very real.
With a new Executive Director of Estates and Facilities in place, the Trust is looking at how its estates services can become more proactive, better informed and more closely connected to the needs of the people who depend on them.
We're working with SASH to find a Head of Estates who can help turn that ambition into reality.
This is a senior leadership opportunity with genuine scope to influence how services operate, how investment is prioritised and how a large, complex hospital estate evolves.
East Surrey Hospital is at the heart of a Trust providing healthcare to around 744,000 people across Surrey, Sussex and South Croydon.
Behind the clinical care is an estate that needs to operate safely and reliably every day. Operating theatres, critical engineering systems, wards and treatment spaces all depend on an effective estates function.
As Head of Estates, you'll lead the operational delivery of Hard Facilities Management (Hard FM), taking responsibility for the safety, compliance, performance and resilience of the Trust's estate.
But the opportunity goes beyond day-to-day maintenance.
You’ll have the chance to influence how the Trust approaches planned preventative maintenance, asset management and the use of estates data to make better long-term decisions.
You’ll help tackle backlog maintenance challenges, improve the resilience of critical infrastructure and support significant capital developments, including new urgent treatment facilities and theatre improvements.
Just as importantly, you’ll lead and develop the people delivering these services, creating a culture where teams feel supported, standards are high and continuous improvement becomes part of everyday working life.
We're interested in speaking with experienced estates leaders who understand the demands of managing complex buildings and critical infrastructure.
You may already be working within the NHS, or you could bring relevant experience from another highly regulated, technically demanding environment.
You'll need a strong grounding in engineering or technical estates management, with experience across statutory compliance, Hard FM, maintenance strategy, contractor management and budgets.
You'll also understand that leading a successful estates service is about more than technical knowledge. It requires the ability to work alongside clinical colleagues, make sound decisions under pressure and bring people with you when introducing change.
We're particularly interested in individuals who can demonstrate how they've improved services, strengthened performance or introduced better ways of working.
There is something particularly rewarding about leading an estates service in healthcare. The quality of your work has a direct impact on the environment in which people receive care and NHS colleagues deliver it.
At SASH, you'll be joining at a time when there is an appetite to improve and an opportunity to help shape that direction.
The Trust also offers:
For someone looking for greater ownership, a fresh leadership challenge and the opportunity to see the impact of their decisions, this could be a compelling next step.
You don't need to have made up your mind about moving roles to start a conversation.
