Teaching Personnel’s PWR team is proud to be working in partnership with a high-performing all-through school in Orpington to appoint a Head of English. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious practitioner to lead the strategic development of the English department.
About the Role:
As Head of English, you will lead the strategic and day-to-day management of the English department, setting a clear vision for excellence in teaching, learning, and student achievement. You will be responsible for developing a cohesive and ambitious curriculum, ensuring high standards across all key stages, and fostering a culture of continual improvement. This is a key leadership role with the opportunity to make a significant impact on pupil outcomes and staff development.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a rich and ambitious English curriculum across all key stages
Drive the strategic direction of the English department, ensuring alignment with whole-school priorities
Line manage and support English staff through effective coaching, mentoring, and performance development
Monitor and analyse pupil progress and attainment data to inform teaching strategies and interventions
Lead departmental self-evaluation and contribute to whole-school improvement planning and policy development
What We’re Looking For:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Strong subject knowledge and proven classroom success in teaching English
Experience teaching across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
Evidence of leadership capacity or current middle leadership responsibility
A commitment to raising standards and promoting a culture of high expectations
