We have exciting opportunities at Barking and Dagenham College. We are seeking a Head of Department for English 16-18.

Are you a dynamic leader passionate about adult education? Do you excel in building strong teams and motivating people? If so, this is your chance!

This is a full-time, permanent position with a competitive salary of £55,566 to £69,566 per annum, including London Weighting.

Role Overview:
The Head of Department (HoD) is responsible for the growth and performance of the designated department(s), including teaching, learning, assessment practices, and business planning.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the Faculty Director for English & Maths and Adult Skills to focus on strategic growth, operational development, and continuous improvement, ensuring the curriculum aligns with industry trends, LMI, and reforms.
• Develop a curriculum that meets local needs and aligns with the College's vision, liaising with external partners to maximize opportunities.
• Enhance quality assurance processes related to key performance indicators, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards, and promote best practices in teaching, learning, and assessment.
• Ensure curriculum leaders are accountable for compliance and foster a performance management culture.
• Drive cultural change by embodying college values, empowering staff, and implementing effective performance and development frameworks.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

• Experience in leading quality cycles, including teaching observations, performance monitoring, audits, and OFSTED readiness.
• Support in self-assessment processes, developing high-quality evaluations, and overseeing SARs and QIPs.
• Promote a performance-focused approach to improve attendance, retention, achievement, and KPIs.
• Lead curriculum planning to meet income targets.

Essential Criteria:

• Experience managing in the Adult Education or Further Education sector.
• Knowledge of frameworks like Ofsted and awarding bodies.
• Ability to plan provision aligned with local and external needs.
• Proven track record of leading performance improvements and enhancing teaching and learning.
• Strong leadership, motivation, and analytical skills.

Note: The role includes a teaching commitment of 4 hours per week.
