Job summary

STRABAG seeks a senior engineering leader for HV/EHV substations. You will act as the technical authority for design, protection & control, and governance, while guiding multidisciplinary teams and growth initiatives.

Responsibilities include leading FEED and detailed design, establishing engineering standards, and managing stakeholder relationships. Chartered status and Grid/contract experience are desirable assets.

Qualifications

• Provide technical leadership for HV/EHV primary and secondary substation engineering.
• Oversee design quality, engineering standards, compliance, and technical assurance reviews.
• Lead delivery of projects through FEED, detailed design, construction support, and commissioning.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, protection & control, cables systems, and commissioning disciplines.
• Act as the senior interface with clients, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
• Develop engineers through mentoring, competency management, recruitment, and technical coaching.
• Support bids, proposals, business development, and strategic growth initiatives.
• Drive innovation and contribute to major grid, renewable integration, and infrastructure programmes.

About the Role

This role is a senior engineering leadership position focused on High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) substations. The successful candidate acts as the technical authority for substation design, protection & control, engineering governance, and design assurance while leading multidisciplinary teams and supporting business growth.

Requirements

• Provide technical leadership for HV/EHV primary and secondary substation engineering.
• Oversee design quality, engineering standards, compliance, and technical assurance reviews.
• Promotes a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and Safety by Design.
• Lead the delivery of projects through FEED, detailed design, construction support, and commissioning.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, protection & control, cables systems, and commissioning disciplines.
• Act as the senior interface with clients, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Electrical Engineer or equivalent
• Significant experience delivering substation design projects.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong stakeholder and client management skills.
• Ability to make complex technical decisions and maintain technical quality across projects.

Desirable

• Chartered Engineer (CEng)
• National Grid project experience.
• Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) authorisation and experience.
• Health & Safety qualifications such as IOSH or NEBOSH.
• Construction and commissioning support experience.
