Job summary

STRABAG SE UK is seeking an experienced Head of Engineering to lead our Power & Distribution team on major UK energy infrastructure projects. You will act as the technical authority for HV/EHV substation design, protection and control, and engineering governance while guiding multidisciplinary project teams.

You will develop engineers, support bids and growth, and ensure safety by design across FEED, detailed design, construction and commissioning, delivering value for clients and communities.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong stakeholder and client management.
  • Ability to make complex technical decisions with quality.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
  • National Grid project experience.
  • CDAE authorisation and experience.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH health and safety qualifications.
  • Construction and commissioning support experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for HV/EHV primary and secondary substation engineering.
  • Oversee design quality, engineering standards, compliance, and technical assurance reviews.
  • Promotes a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and Safety by Design.
  • Lead the delivery of projects through FEED, detailed design, construction support, and commissioning.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, protection & control, cables systems, and commissioning disciplines.
  • Act as the senior interface with clients, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Develop engineers through mentoring, competency management, recruitment, and technical coaching.
  • Support bids, proposals, business development, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Drive innovation, and contributing to the successful delivery of major grid, renewable integration, and infrastructure programmes.

About the Role:
