Job summary

National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) is seeking a Head of Engineering Design to lead a 90+ engineering team across Tipton, Bristol, Castle Donington and Cardiff, with travel across licence areas. You will drive safe, compliant, cost-effective EHV substation designs and oversee design standards from 11kV to 132kV.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in electrical engineering design or related discipline with leadership of large technical teams.
• Track record of improving delivery performance and reducing costs in engineering, utility or project delivery.
• Strong leadership skills to inspire and hold teams accountable.
• Ability to manage day-to-day priorities while driving long-term improvements.
• Experience with NEC contracts and Design & Build delivery models.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a 90+ engineering professionals across multiple offices.
• Set objectives and performance measures aligned with Major Projects and policy.
• Ensure timely delivery of high-quality EHV designs for substation projects.
• Maintain governance and ensure compliance with NGED policies and CDM.
• Develop outsourcing model for Design & Build to enhance resilience.
• Collaborate with other NGED teams to meet standards and policies.
• Drive design throughput, productivity and cost-effective delivery.
