Head of Digital Communication

Salary: £52,082 - £61,084 + benefits (including a Civil Service Pension with an employer contribution of 28.97%)

We lead the Government's work on the future governance of football. At present, the Shadow Football Regulator comprises over thirty members of staff, led by an interim Chief Operating Officer, undertaking a range of activities in preparation for passage of the Football Governance Bill, which is currently in Parliament.

The Shadow Football Regulator is a dedicated team within DCMS which is responsible for setting up the Independent Football Regulator. It is ensuring the Regulator has the right skills, governance and corporate functions so it can start work as soon as possible after the Bill receives Royal Assent.

This post, and its recruitment, is dependent on progress of the Bill, and the intention is for this role to transfer to the Regulator once it's legally established.

Please note that the Independent Football Regulator will be based in Greater Manchester, but an exact location has yet to be determined.

Job Description

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement the IFR s digital communications strategy across a variety of social media channels.
  • Manage the IFR website, ensuring it is compliant with all relevant standards. This includes responsibility for all publications, such as news stories and guidance, and working with wider teams to ensure information is up to date and reliable.
  • Work closely with the IFR press office to ensure consistency of content, message and tone.
  • Develop the IFR s social media strategy and create engaging content for social media channels, the IFR website and internal communications channels.
  • Ensure all communications plans are fully evaluated.


Person Specification

You will be an experienced, talented and motivated digital communicator with a strong background in delivering high-quality, creative content to engage audiences through the Independent Football Regulator s website and digital channels. You will have sound judgement and the ability to lead.

Essential Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in setting social media strategies and managing social media channels. This includes a detailed knowledge of how to optimise them to reach diverse audiences.
  • Excellent creative content and production skills, including a strong user knowledge of Adobe Suite products.
  • Experience in developing a website or campaign microsite and best practice.
  • Extensive experience working with Content Management Systems to ensure consistent tone, messaging and branding.
  • Good understanding of online accessibility standards and how to implement them in web content and design.
  • Experience using web and social media analytics to inform and evaluate digital communications strategy.


Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of working in football and/or knowledge of the football industry.
  • A working knowledge of website UX best practices, including user journeys or content hierarchy.
  • Experience of managing contracts and budgets.
  • Experience of producing video and animation, including scripting, editing and distribution across platforms.
