Job summary

Pennthorpe School is seeking a Head of Computing & IT to lead Computing across Years 1 to 8 and to provide day-to-day IT support for staff and pupils. You will teach Computing and drive the subject's development to enable confident, creative and safe use of technology.

In addition to teaching, you will be the school's primary IT contact, maintaining systems and devices and working with external providers to ensure technology supports learning effectively.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent qualification; QTS desirable but not essential.
• Experience teaching Computing or related subject with secure subject knowledge.
• Experience planning curriculum, assessing pupil progress, and contributing to subject development.
• Strong understanding of educational technology and experience supporting technology in a professional environment.
• Good organisational and communication skills with ability to build positive working relationships.

Responsibilities

This is a varied role that combines teaching, subject leadership, and practical IT management.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead the development of Computing across Years 1 to 8
• Teach Computing lessons and support technology-related enrichment opportunities
• Monitor the quality of teaching, learning, and outcomes within the subject
• Provide effective support for hardware, software, and user issues
• Manage user accounts, permissions, devices, and aspects of the school’s MIS
• Support audio-visual requirements for assemblies, productions, and other school events

• Work with the Head of Finance & Operations and external IT providers to maintain secure and reliable systems

About you:

• A degree or equivalent qualification; QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification is desirable but not essential

• Experience planning curriculum, assessing pupil progress, and contributing to subject development
• A good understanding of educational technology and experience supporting technology in a professional environment

• Good organisational and communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with pupils, colleagues, and external providers
