We will therefore consider all qualified applicants in the recruitment process as we welcome all the unique qualities and experiences that make you, you.
About The Role
This role is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communications and marketing strategies that effectively reach target audiences, build our brand reputation, and drive the adoption of our data-driven insights and growth of our products. This hybrid role is based out of our London office near Waterloo Station and reports to the COO.
TransitionZero develops open and accessible electricity system modelling data, software, and insights to support analysts working on transition planning with or for governments in low- to middle-income countries. We're looking for a communications leader who understands the risks and opportunities of the energy transition and has the skills and experience to be responsible for communicating and promoting our mission, products and analysis and will develop a coherent plan for both software and analysis products, with the latter showcasing the former.
You will work cross-functionally with our Product and Analysis teams to drive engagement with our datasets, software, and model-led insights. You will manage a content marketer and have access to freelance graphic design and in-country specialist communications support through our partnerships. Product marketing support will be available subject to additional funding.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Communications:
- Managing TransitionZero's public relations and company communications strategy.
- Seeking opportunities to insert TransitionZero’s energy system modelling expertise and findings into wider energy transition narratives and conversations.
- Proactively securing op-eds, data visualisations, and expert commentary opportunities with media outlets.
- Growing our network of energy journalists, policy analysts, key opinion leaders, and private/public partners in our focus markets (currently Southeast and East Asia).
- Providing strategic communications support to the CEO and Co-Founder – social media strategy, media engagements, and high-level speaking opportunities.
- Product & User Marketing:
- Project managing and owning the ongoing launch marketing strategy for Scenario Builder.
- Collaborating with the Product team on communications initiatives that attract new users to Scenario Builder, such as educational webinars, workshops, live demonstrations and briefings with media.
- Designing processes for user feedback and engagement, working with the Product and Technology teams to ensure this feedback is reflected in the roadmap.
- Ensuring we have ambitious marketing strategies for the different user segments of Scenario Builder.
- Content Development & Marketing:
- Managing a content marketing specialist and keeping our content machine firing with high-quality, model-led articles, data visualisations, email newsletters and social media content.
- Writing compelling press materials that translate complex modelling outputs into clear, concise, and actionable media releases.
- Creating comprehensive global and regional communications campaigns for report releases and delivering impactful launches for reports, datasets, and new model runs.
- Supporting our analysts in the development of pixel-perfect research reports.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Events:
- Owning the company events calendar, securing speaking engagements and partnerships that help meet our grant objectives.
- Distributing media releases using our internal database, or in collaboration with freelancer/contract support and partners.
- Reporting & Internal Communications:
- Owning reporting for communications outcomes associated with our grants, ensuring we’re clearly measuring and communicating the impact of our work.
- Keeping the rest of the team informed about stories & narratives relating to our product development and in-country impacts.
- Brand Management:
- In partnership with our external brand designer, ensuring quality and brand consistency across all public-facing outputs.
About You
You’re a digital native communications professional with demonstrated experience delivering strategic communications results for complex, technical energy research aimed at influencing government policy. You will have the aptitude and experience to create a communications and marketing strategy that supports both our software product and our model-led insights. Your ability to develop creative strategies, passion for impactful marketing, and knack for leveraging data to weave compelling narratives are essential skills that will help drive our mission forward. Our communication strategy spans product and analysis, so you will be able to quickly build working relationships with data engineers, product managers and energy analysts. While we are a rapidly growing tech startup, we are also a non-profit, so a high level of adaptability and willingness to approach challenges with creativity and curiosity is essential. We work globally, so you will be able to demonstrate a nuanced understanding of diverse cultural landscapes, consumer behaviors, and regulatory environments.

- An understanding of, or hands-on experience in, software startups and agile working processes

- Comfortable managing engagements with C-suite executives and high-level government officials
- Strategic communications vision – you’re able to distil complexity into actionable, measurable outcomes on a global and local level

- Solutions-oriented, adaptable, and happy to roll up your sleeves when the role demands it
- Empathetic and mindful of different ways of working, and respectful of the unique skills that the people you manage and collaborate with bring to work
- An appreciation of content-led marketing and curiosity about the constantly evolving world of social media
- A desire to have a real impact on the energy transition
Salary & Benefits
- Enhanced pension scheme (5% employer contribution)
- 25 days annual leave (excluding UK public holidays) and an additional day off on your birthday
- 20 days annual allowance to work from anywhere in the world
- Hybrid working and core working hours model
- Allowance to set up your home office
