Job summary

LEASE is seeking a Head of Communications and Engagement to lead the organisation's communications, engagement and external affairs function. The role sits on the Senior Management Team and advises the Chief Executive and Board on strategic communications and stakeholder issues.

Qualifications

• Significant senior-level experience in communications, engagement and/or external affairs.
• Proven ability to develop and deliver communications and engagement strategies with measurable impact.
• Strong experience in proactive and reactive media relations and senior spokesperson preparation.
• Broad experience across digital/direct communications, social media, audience engagement and brand management.
• Public affairs and stakeholder engagement experience with government, public bodies or sector organisations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to simplify complex policy for varied audiences.
• Hands-on content skills; ability to write, edit and produce high-quality material.
• Experience managing budgets, agencies and external suppliers.
• Understanding of communicating as a public body with impartiality, accessibility and data protection.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and accessible outreach.

Responsibilities

• Act as a senior adviser to the Chief Executive, Senior Management Team and Board on communications and external affairs.
• Develop and lead the organisation’s communications and engagement strategy with clear plans and KPIs.
• Provide line management and development to staff within the function and manage resources effectively.
• Lead proactive and reactive media relations and prepare senior spokespeople for interviews.
• Oversee digital, direct and social communications, ensuring effective content and SEO/AI-friendly outputs.
• Drive stakeholder engagement with government, parliament and public bodies and advise on public affairs.
• Oversee events, external engagements and the organisation’s brand and publications.
