Join us for an exciting opportunity to shape Chubb’s internal and external communications across 26 countries in the EMEA region!

We’re seeking a dynamic, imaginative Head of Communications

  • to craft and execute strategies that engage, inform, and inspire our employees across diverse teams in 26 countries while aligning with our business goals.
  • to lead our external communications function with a focus on reputation management and effective communications with external stakeholders.

You’ll provide strategic counsel, manage expectations, and influence decision-making while collaborating with Executive leadership, business leaders and local marketing communications teams.

The role has two direct reports and is a member of the EMEA Marketing & Communications Management team, reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications EMEA. In addition, the role is a member of Chubb’s global internal communications network and global external communications network.

Key Responsibilities:

EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

Reputation Management

  • Produce communications including speech writing, business messaging, talking points, Q&A documents, news releases, news and feature articles.
  • Maintain and diversify EMEA’s subject matter expert list
  • Oversee the review and approval process of external communications, including press releases, speeches, and presentations.
  • Ensure that subject matter experts are fully coached and prepared for each external communications interaction.
  • Monitor public perception and media coverage, providing insights to senior management.

Collaboration and best practice

  • Support local teams in aligning media activity to business priorities and global standards.
  • Build and share best practices approach for managing media events, launches and conferences
  • Collaborate with the global external communications team

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

Strategic Communication Planning

  • Develop and implement an internal communication strategy that aligns with the overall business objectives and enhances employee engagement across the EMEA region.
  • Identify key communication priorities and initiatives that support organizational change, culture, and employee experience.

Employee Engagement

  • Develop initiatives to enhance employee engagement and foster a sense of community within the organization.

Content Development

  • Create compelling and relevant content for various internal communication channels, including newsletters, intranet, town halls, and digital platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather insights and stories that highlight employee achievements, company milestones, and strategic initiatives.
  • Ownership of EMEA intranet and regional newsletter

INTERNAL & EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor direct reports and establish a network of communication leads to drive best practice across EMEA.
  • Promote professional development and continuous learning within the team.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with senior leaders to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with corporate values and goals.
  • Act as a trusted advisor on communication best practices and provide guidance on effective communication strategies.
  • Improve established processes and procedures internally and with outside vendors, at both a regional and country level.
  • Collaborate with the global external and internal communications functions and ensure global standards and processes are being met and adhered to across the region.

Crisis Communication

  • Work with HR and other relevant departments; act as the go-to person for communications during an incident or crisis and support the ongoing development and testing of the crisis communications strategy.

Measurement and Evaluation

  • Apply metrics to assess the effectiveness of communication efforts and report on progress.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine communication strategies based on feedback and changing organizational needs.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the financial services sector/insurance and have a solid background in internal communications, public relations, media engagement, and crisis communication, as well as the skills to provide guidance and training to internal stakeholders.

Experience

  • A solid combined experience in internal communications and media relations, either in a communications team or at an agency specialising in financial services, particularly insurance or other regulated industry
  • Experienced working in a large, matrix-managed international organization
  • Very experienced in leading and delivering internal communications
  • Must be an effective communicator, capable of writing clearly and concisely
  • Ability to use sound judgment to gather, manage and impart information to the media and/or various other external audiences consistent with the company’s messages and positioning.
  • Well versed in the latest trends and best practices in communications
  • Strong social media acumen

  • Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving and strong commercial acumen
  • Calm under pressure and uncompromising work ethic
  • Adaptable and resilient in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships at all levels internally and externally
  • Gravitas to engage with senior management and become a trusted source of communications counsel
  • High level of emotional intelligence and cultural awareness.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences.
  • Track record of operating independently to prioritise work plans and tasks to meet agreed-upon time frames and deliverables.
  • Highly organised and able to work at pace with a high degree of flexibility to deliver multiple projects to a high standard at once
  • Measurement and reporting skills, including setting and tracking KPIs
  • Strong understanding and use of digital communication tools and platforms. Knowledge of Jive, Poppulo, Meltwater, Cision, video and social media

Qualifications:

  • Educated at degree level in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field
