Job Description

Building a better place.

Become a vital member of our Project & Programme Services team, proudly taking on some of the world's most exciting and prestigious projects. Join us, and you'll be part of our genuinely collaborative environment, where everyone is supported to make the most of their talents. It's about recognizing everyone's contributions equally while delivering excellence together.

Flexible and remote working are central to our culture, so talk to us about what's important to you, from reduced weeks to buying more leave, and how we can make reasonable adjustments for you or support your ambitions outside of work.

As the Head of Commercial Services for the Bristol business, you'll be responsible for delivering work driven by excellence and doing the right thing. We have a reputation for working on some of the UK's most high-profile commissions across a wide range of projects and sectors, including infrastructure, education, corporate real estate, retail, residential, aviation, and healthcare. As well as building long-term, sustainable relationships with key clients and developing your own career progression, you'll also be a catalyst for your colleagues' career progression.

Your purpose:

  1. Manage commercial aspects of commissions and/or projects including governance, fee management activities, internal job costings, and resource requirements. Prepare fee proposals and bid submissions for significant enquiries and guide senior colleagues in providing the same for designated enquiries.
  2. Create a positive sales culture in the team and deploy people to develop business and win work, optimising sales. Utilise and expand on existing frameworks to develop a strong current and future pipeline. Fully integrate and help lead the Bristol office with the Heads of Building Surveying and Project Management, enthuse our people through effective engagement, develop talent, and ensure safety and wellbeing. Provide line management to Team Leaders, guiding and mentoring as required.
  3. Engage in the development of the Bristol Strategy and align it with the regional/national strategy. Prepare annual plans, identify future trends and growth areas within Bristol/Southwest, and support the drive for excellence across the service stream.
  4. Manage client relationships and service delivery on a project basis in conjunction with other colleagues. Integrate with other Heads of Services on multi-disciplinary commissions and equivalents in other regions for national commissions.
  5. Take the lead by setting the pace and monitoring all work executed at all stages to ensure that an accurate, professional, and quality service is delivered to clients.
  6. Support the development of digital tools across the business to achieve technical excellence and consistency of approach to maximize efficiency in service delivery. Apply the principles of quality assurance and environmental management in compliance with the organisation's policies.
  7. Manage trainee, assistant, and graduate colleagues, including undertaking performance and development reviews and mentoring/coaching less experienced colleagues. Play a key role in generating repeat business and new market opportunities. Act as an ambassador for AtkinsRéalis externally.

What you can bring:

  • Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors membership or equivalent recognized institutional body.
  • Thorough understanding of construction forms and techniques including construction costs, and ability to advise clients knowledgeably.
  • Strong customer management skills, including managing expectations.
  • Ability to represent the company during bid interviews and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Competent knowledge of procurement options available in the industry. Strong JCT and/or NEC contract experience.
  • Detailed understanding of methods/rule of measurement and experience with electronic measurement and cost planning software packages.
  • Effective people management skills, including training and mentoring less experienced staff.
  • Ability to engage with all teams and be both visible and approachable to all staff.
  • Performance-driven, with a desire to exceed targets and a proven track record in exceeding business performance expectations.
  • Strong personal reputation and recognition in the industry for creating value through environmental, economic, and/or social outcomes.
  • Drive and enthusiasm to act as an ambassador for AtkinsRéalis externally.
