Job description

Our client is a UK flexible generation and energy storage platform with a multi-gigawatt development pipeline spanning battery storage, dispatchable thermal assets and other flexibility technologies. As the business enters its next phase of growth, it's creating a Head of Commercial role to lead revenue strategy and optimisation across the portfolio. This is a senior, hands-on position covering wholesale market participation, Capacity Market strategy, ancillary services and structured offtake, and it sits right at the point where power markets meet trading and commercial decision-making.

The Company

Our client operates across the UK's flexible power sector, pairing storage with dispatchable generation to help balance a grid that leans more on renewables every year. The business is growing quickly and building out its in-house trading and commercial capability as it does, so this role carries real influence over how that function takes shape. It's a commercially minded, entrepreneurial setting where analytical rigour and clear decision-making count for more than hierarchy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end revenue strategy across the portfolio, maximising value through wholesale markets, ancillary services and Capacity Market participation.
  • Lead the business's approach to Capacity Market auctions, from qualification and bidding through to delivery risk and contract compliance.
  • Structure and negotiate PPAs, tolling agreements and other offtake arrangements, working closely with legal and finance to secure sound commercial terms.
  • Build and lead a high-calibre commercial team as the platform scales, acting as the senior voice on revenue and market strategy internally.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Significant experience in UK power markets, gained at an IPP, utility, trading house, energy investment platform or specialist consultancy.
  • Strong understanding of revenue streams for flexible assets, including Capacity Market, ancillary services and wholesale optimisation.
  • A track record of owning or leading commercial strategy for energy assets.
  • Solid grasp of UK market fundamentals, policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Exposure to energy storage or other dispatchable technologies is an advantage, as is experience building or scaling a commercial or trading function.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary with a performance-related bonus.
  • Private medical cover and wellbeing support.
  • Strong employer pension contribution.
  • Genuine scope to shape and grow the commercial function as the business scales.

Mint Selection is committed to inclusive hiring and equal opportunities. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and are focused on building diverse teams that reflect the global energy transition.
