Job summary

Siemens Energy’s Grid Technologies division seeks a Head of Civil Engineering to lead a dynamic team delivering civil engineering solutions across Great Britain and Ireland.

You will collaborate with Engineering Managers, Operations Managers, and Project Managers to ensure all activities align with strategic objectives and oversee the full life cycle, including supply chain, engagement, tender, FEED, and delivery phases.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered status with a relevant professional body.
• Willingness to travel to global engineering teams, UK construction sites, and partners.
• Comprehensive knowledge of civil engineering standards for TSOs, DNOs, and renewable projects in GB & Ireland.
• Strong focus on health and safety including CDM regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver civil engineering projects within Grid Technologies.
• Define policies, processes, and methods to fulfil the civil delivery strategy while complying with laws/regulations.
• Manage resources and budgets and develop technical standards for civil engineering.
• Oversee civil execution sub-contracts and ensure quality and delivery alignment.
• Promote digital construction and IEC19650 across projects.

As the Head of Civil Engineering for Siemens Energy's Grid Technologies division, you will lead a dynamic team responsible for delivering civil engineering solutions across various projects in Great Britain and Ireland. You will collaborate closely with Engineering Managers, Operations Managers, and Project Managers to ensure that all engineering activities align with our strategic objectives. Your role will involve overseeing the full life cycle of civil engineering and delivery for the business, including supply chain management and engagement, customer-facing activities through business development, tender, negotiation, FEED, and delivery phases, the management and production/procurement of civil engineering designs, ensuring compliance with regional regulations, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety, as well as the management of civil sub-contractors throughout the project delivery phase.

Your role will involve overseeing the full life cycle of civil engineering and delivery for the business, including supply chain management and engagement, customer-facing activities through business development, tender, negotiation, FEED, and delivery phases, the management and production/procurement of civil engineering designs, ensuring compliance with regional regulations, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety, as well as the management of civil sub-contractors throughout the project delivery phase.

In this position, you will foster a culture of excellence within your team, driving the development of technical standards and procedures while mentoring less experienced engineers. Your leadership will have a significant impact on project delivery, ensuring that we meet our commitments to clients and stakeholders.

Our projects encompass the EPC multi-disciplinary delivery of HVDC interconnectors, offshore HVDC connected wind farms, offshore HVAC connected wind farms, and grid stabilization systems for TSO and DNO customers. If you are at a stage in your career where you wish to broaden your responsibilities to include greater technical and commercial oversight, your role can be expanded to encompass the full coordination of all onshore technical disciplines involved in EPC project delivery, HV equipment, AC and HVDC control and protection engineering, as well as our offshore platform engineering solutions. How You'll Make An Impact

• Build and lead a capable, multi-disciplinary team to deliver a variety of civil engineering projects within the Grid Technologies division.
• Implement and define policies, processes, and methods to fulfil the overall civil delivery strategy, ensuring compliance with regional laws and regulations.
• Manage resources and budgets effectively, driving the development of technical standards and procedures for civil engineering.
• Oversee the appointment and quality assurance of civil execution sub-contracts, ensuring alignment with delivery expectations.
• Promote the adoption of digital construction solutions, implementing IEC19650 within projects.

What You Bring

• A degree or HND in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent, with typically 10 years of professional managerial experience within the industry.
• Chartered status with a relevant professional body.
• A willingness to travel to our global engineering teams, our construction delivery partners, and our UK construction sites in order to build relationships and better understand our challenges.
• Comprehensive knowledge of civil engineering standards applicable to Transmission System Operators (TSOs), Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), and renewable projects in Great Britain and Ireland.
• A passion for health and safety, including Construction (Design and Management) regulations, and experience in building services coordination.
