Job summary

About the role

Are you passionate about basketball and committed to helping young athletes reach their full potential? Do you have the drive, leadership and expertise to build a thriving performance programme that delivers success on and off the court?

We are looking for an outstanding Head of Basketball to lead and grow our Basketball Academy, providing an exceptional environment where student-athletes can excel academically, develop as players and progress towards their future aspirations within the sport. The role is 1.0 FTE, comprising a 0.6 teaching commitment, with leadership responsibilities across the basketball provision.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the direction of an ambitious basketball programme, establishing a culture of excellence that attracts talented players from across the region and supports them throughout their educational and sporting journey.

As Head of Basketball, you will take overall responsibility for the strategic development and day-to-day operation of the Academy. You will lead the delivery of a high-quality coaching programme, develop individual and team performance plans, and create opportunities for players to compete and showcase their abilities at regional and national levels.

A key aspect of the role will be identifying and recruiting talented student-athletes, building strong links with schools, clubs, governing bodies and community partners, and developing clear progression pathways into higher education, elite competition and employment within the wider sports sector. You will also work closely with academic and support teams to ensure learners are challenged, supported and able to balance the demands of study and performance sport.

The successful candidate will provide inspirational leadership both on and off the court, acting as a role model for students and fostering a culture built on commitment, professionalism, inclusion and personal development. You will oversee participation in AoC Sport, Basketball England and BUCS competitions, using performance analysis and continuous improvement strategies to help individuals and teams achieve sustained success.
