York City Baths Club (YCBC) based in York has a vacancy for a Head Coach.

Introduction

YCBC is a competitive swimming club operating in a variety of pools in York. We provide great opportunities for swimmers of all abilities, from swimming lessons within our very own learn to swim scheme, through to competitive swimming training within our squad programme.

The club follows the principles of the Athlete Development Support Pathway model and focuses entirely on the development of skills in a fun and friendly swimming environment. Swimmers at YCBC compete in a variety of competitions, ranging from Club Championships to international meets.

Our aim is to teach York to swim and swim fast within a sustainable, high-quality environment, which encourages all swimmers to reach their optimum potential through a diverse and effective programme.

Our ambition is to continue to enhance our provision of a centre for high-performance swimming

Purpose:

  • The key task of YCBC’s Head Coach is to prepare the swimmers of the competitive section of the Club to be able to compete to the best of their ability, developing in line with Club goals and objectives.
  • Ensure the provision of an integrated approach to swimmer development throughout YCBC is achieved by maintaining good communication and interaction with other coaching services providers and volunteer swimming teachers.
  • Develop and lead comprehensive training programmes that alignwith the goals of the club for the training squads, with a key objective to ensure that the swimmers are measurably better performers in competition over time.
  • With regards to Coaching and training, YCBC’s Head Coach will provide enhanced services, in particular:
  • To coach and prepare swimmers to achieve Personal Bests (PBs)/Seasons Best performances at national championships for those qualifying, whilst also maintaining continual improvement for all swimmers throughout the season.
  • Designing and delivering a comprehensive training programme, with individual development plans (IDPs) for all National Squad swimmers, starting with the Senior swimmers. Sharing these with both swimmers and parents/guardians, and maintaining a regular review of progress.
  • Developing an enhanced inter-disciplinary approach to optimise the development and performance of the swimmers, including use of appropriate strength and conditioning and sports science considerations by consultation with specialists in those fields and in line with Swim England guidance and best practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the overall approach to coaching delivery across the Club, including coach scheduling, coach continuing professional development (CPD), session planning, swimmer performance monitoring and development planning, team selection for galas, etc.
  • Responsibility for the teaching/coaching and learning, which occurs during each session, including the discipline of the swimmers.
  • Monitor and evaluate swimmers’ progress, providing individualised feedback and adjustments to training as needed.
  • Grading members of YCBC into the most appropriate squad, having regard to the standard or proficiency of each swimmer and in line with YCBC’s criteria for each squad.
  • Promoting understanding and appreciation of the rules of swimming.
  • Generally instilling and promoting amongst the members an enthusiasm and proficiency for swimming.
  • Maintaina land training programme to develop the swimmer’s strength and conditioning.
  • Identify and agree implementation of appropriate technology and equipment to enhance the training environment and improve the performance of the swimmers.
  • Plan, attend and coordinate participation in local, regional and national level competitions for the Club
  • Maintain oversight of the YCBC Teaching pathway to ensure a high-quality transition into the training squads, along with the pathway from other local swimming clubs and learn to swim providers.
  • Contribute directly to the work of the Club Swimming Committee.
  • Ensure compliance with all Club policies, procedures and codes of conduct as well as Swim England policies and procedures, including Wavepower.
  • Engage with the Club Committee and parents, providing regular updates on training, competitions and club initiatives.
  • Prepare Club communications regarding Club attendance and performance at competitions for internal and external audiences.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • An intimate knowledge of the pool situation and its risks, including how to access and, if required, operate the emergency action procedures for the pool being used.
  • The insistence of appropriate safe behaviour by all swimmers, not only those in their immediate care.
  • An understanding of child protection issues: Knowledge of safeguarding and welfare policy, practice and procedure for children in line with the Swim Englandcurrent Wavepower document.
  • Appropriate preparation required for each session, including a session plan and the subsequent evaluation.
  • The necessary equipment required to undertake the role.
  • Knowledge of the role and significance of volunteers in the delivery of club operations.
  • Knowledge of databases and systems and the ability to use them for clear communications, including data management and the club privacy policy.
  • Strong planning, administration and structural skills.

Qualifications

  • Swim England Swimming Coach Certificate/ASA Level 2 Coaching Award.
  • Enhanced DBS with barring check and right to work in the UK.
  • Hold a current safeguarding certificate recognised by Swim England.
  • A full driving licence to reach the required training and competition locations.
  • Hold or be prepared to undertake qualifications in first aid and continuing professional development to meet current Swim England requirements.
  • Have good administrative skills and be computer literate.
  • Swim England Senior Swimming Coach/ASA Level 3 Coaching Award.
  • Land training/ Strength & Conditioning qualification (or be willing to undertake this).
  • RLSS National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC)
