Job summary

Gibraltar Nursing Home is seeking a Head Chef to lead a busy kitchen, preparing wholesome meals with a focus on nutrition and quality. The role involves creating menus, mentoring staff, and ensuring excellent hygiene and safety standards in a supportive care home environment.

You'll manage budgeting and cost control, oversee stock and food quality, and contribute to designing meals including options for swallowing difficulties. The position offers a stable day schedule and scope for CPD.

Qualifications

• Food hygiene level 2 is required.
• Minimum 3 years’ kitchen experience.
• Team leadership experience.
• Planning and budgeting experience.
• Stock control and budgeting experience.
• Care home experience is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a variety of fresh nutritious meals and other refreshments, ensuring a balanced diet.
• Create menus with vegetarian and/or meat dish options.
• Lead and mentor the catering team.
• Maintain high levels of hygiene, health and safety and cleanliness.
• Ensure food at point of serving is of the highest quality.
• Involve in design, budget and cost control of all food menus.
• Monitor stock rotation to keep kitchen and stores well stocked.
• Prepare soft meals for those with swallowing difficulties.
• Regularly check the quality of food served to residents.
