Job summary

The Rowbarge, part of Brunning and Price, is seeking an experienced Head Chef to lead a busy, high-volume kitchen and elevate the dining experience. You will shape menus, mentor the culinary team, and ensure top quality and presentation across a premium fresh food environment.

In this role you will manage stock, GP and labour, work closely with the pub manager to drive business forward, and embrace a culture of inclusivity and excellence within Brunning and Price’s growing family of pubs.

Qualifications

• Experience as head chef or senior kitchen leadership in a busy, premium fresh food environment.
• Strong menu development and kitchen management capabilities.
• Excellent stock, GP and labour control skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the kitchen team to deliver high-quality dishes.
• Drive menu development and seasonal adaptations with Executive Chefs.
• Oversee kitchen operations, stock, GP and labour controls to maximise profitability.
• Collaborate with pub management to drive business growth and food culture.

As the Head Chef, you will play a pivotal role in menu development, kitchen management, and maintaining the highest standards of food quality and presentation. We are seeking an individual who shares our love for food, embraces creativity, and has exceptional culinary skills.

The Rowbarge has been serving the needs of travellers and locals alike for hundreds of years. It is a truly characterful traditional pub.

There are six different rooms with nooks and crannies aplenty, a multitude of different cask ales on tap, a fantastic wine list and a shelf crammed with malts.

The pub sits on the banks of the River Kennet and is surrounded by a beautiful large garden with a patio area. It's the perfect place to bask to watch river life go by and enjoy a spot of 'al fresco' drinking and dining.

About You...

Our kitchens are dynamic, fast paced, and high volume so you will have experience of being a head chef, chef manager, kitchen manager or senior sous chef in a busy, premium fresh food environment. You will be responsible for the food culture within your pub, working closely with the pub manager to drive the business forward, helping to formulate seasonal menus with our Executive Chefs. We are looking for a confident leader who will nurture their team and create an inclusive and supportive environment. You'll also need excellent business acumen to manage a well‑run kitchen, keeping on top of your stock, GPs and labour controls.
