Job description

Wren Hall Nursing Home is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Chef to lead our catering team and ensure our Family members (residents) and little Wrens Nursery and preschool enjoy a high-quality dining experience every day.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and prepare well-balanced, nutritious meals tailored to family members' needs and preferences.
  • Order, manage, and maintain adequate stock levels, ensuring freshness and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead, support, and develop the catering team through effective management and ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Ensure the dining experience at Wren Hall consistently meets the highest standards of presentation, taste, and hygiene.
  • Develop and implement menus that cater to the dietary requirements of residents and children, including textured modified meals for those with swallowing difficulties.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the kitchen and all equipment, following Safer Food Better Business standards.
  • Ensure personal and team hygiene standards meet the Nursing Home Hygiene Standards and Food Hygiene Regulations.
  • Participate in recruitment, staff development, and performance management of the catering team.
  • Report any equipment issues, accidents, incidents, or complaints to the appropriate management personnel.
General Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to and promote the home's policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory standards.
  • Follow health and safety regulations, including fire safety and infection control policies.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions related to food hygiene, safety, and care standards.
  • Maintain professional appearance and conduct, including punctuality and attendance.
  • Participate in team meetings, staff supervisions, and appraisals.
  • Ensure the kitchen is maintained to high standards of cleanliness and that quality standards for goods are met.
Requirements:
  • Level 3 qualification in Food and Catering Preparation (or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to plan menus that meet dietary needs and support overall health and well-being.
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills.
  • A genuine passion for delivering exceptional food and service in a care setting.
