Job description

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Head and Neck Sonographer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing high-quality ultrasound examinations of the head and neck region, including thyroid, salivary glands, lymph nodes, and other soft tissue structures. You will play a key role in supporting early diagnosis and patient management in community settings.

Main duties of the job
  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound scans of the head and neck region in accordance with HealthHarmonie protocols and national guidelines.
  • Produce accurate, high-quality reports to support clinical decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively with referring clinicians and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure data protection compliance.
  • Participate in clinical audit, peer review, and quality assurance activities.
  • Support training and mentoring of junior sonographers or trainees if required.
  • Uphold professional standards and contribute to continuous service improvement.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Qualified Sonographer with MSc, DMU, Postgraduate Diploma or Certificate in Medical Ultrasound from a CASE-accredited institution.
  • HCPC or RCT registration.
  • Minimum of five years post-qualification experience, with demonstrable expertise in head and neck ultrasound.
  • Own professional indemnity insurance.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., BMUS, SoR).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.
  • Experience working in community or outpatient settings.
  • Familiarity with NHS referral pathways and reporting systems.
  • Teaching or mentoring experience.
  • Additional competencies in other ultrasound areas (e.g., MSK, vascular) are advantageous.
