Job summary

The London Clinic has a great opportunity to join the Orthopaedics and Spinal Ward as a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant. You will work under the supervision of a registered nurse within a supportive clinical team, caring for patients before and after orthopaedic and spinal surgery.

This role requires recent experience on an acute surgical ward, with a focus on personal care, mobility and dignity. You will be part of a busy ward, helping patients regain independence and confidence during recovery.

Qualifications

• Recent experience working as a Healthcare Assistant on an acute surgical ward.
• Experience caring for patients before or after surgery.
• Experience helping patients with personal care and mobility.
• Confidence completing and recording clinical observations.
• Ability to notice changes in a patient's condition and report them quickly.
• Understanding of confidentiality, infection prevention and patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Help patients with washing, dressing, toileting and other personal care while protecting their dignity.
• Support patients to move, change position and walk safely as they recover from surgery.
• Help patients with eating and drinking to support their health and recovery.
• Check and record temperature, pulse, blood pressure, breathing rate, oxygen levels and fluid balance.
• Tell the registered nurse immediately if you notice a change in a patient's condition.
• Listen to patients and provide reassurance when they are in pain, worried or less independent.
• Communicate clearly and respectfully with patients, relatives and colleagues.
• Keep patient information private and secure.
• Help maintain a clean, safe and well organised ward.
• Follow infection prevention and patient safety procedures.
• Use equipment safely and report any faults.
• Complete tasks given to you by a registered nurse when you have the correct training and skills.
• Attend training and keep your knowledge and skills up to date.

Department: Orthopaedics and Spinal Ward

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Shift Pattern: Monday to Sunday on rotation to cover Days and Nights

Contract: Permanent

We have a great opportunity to join our Orthopaedics and Spinal Ward at The London Clinic. You will work with a supportive clinical team and care for patients before and after orthopaedic and spinal surgery.

Your care and attention will make an important difference during each patient's recovery. You will help patients with their personal care, movement and daily needs while encouraging them to regain their confidence and independence.

To apply, you must have recent experience working as a Healthcare Assistant on an acute surgical ward. This means a hospital ward where patients receive care before and after surgery.

Please Note, this is a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant role. It is not a Band 4 role and it does not lead to a nursing preceptorship programme. We are looking for someone who wants to continue working as an experienced Band 3 Healthcare Assistant.

A little about the role

Our ward cares for patients having surgery involving their bones, joints, back, neck or spine. Many patients need extra support after their operation, particularly with movement, personal care, eating and drinking.

You will work under the supervision of a registered nurse and as part of a wider team of healthcare professionals. You will get to know your patients, understand their needs and help make their time in hospital as comfortable as possible.

This is a busy role where you will be trusted to complete important tasks, notice changes in a patient's condition and share concerns quickly. You will always have the support of the nursing team around you.
