Job summary

Abbeywell Surgery in Romsey is seeking an experienced General Practice Healthcare Assistant to join our nursing team. You will support clinicians with patient care, perform basic health checks, maintain examination rooms and handle administrative tasks.

We look for strong communication, reliability and attention to detail. GCSEs in English and Maths are required; phlebotomy qualification is desirable. Training and development are provided in a supportive primary care environment.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Healthcare Assistant in a GP surgery or primary care setting.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology and procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• GCSE grades A-C in English and Maths.
• Desirable: Phlebotomy qualification.

Main duties of the job

Requirements of the role:
Patient Care: Assist healthcare professionals in providing high-quality care to patients. Conduct basic health checks, such as measuring vital signs and collecting patient histories.
2. Clinical Support: Prepare and maintain examination rooms for patient consultations. Assist in minor medical procedures and treatments as directed by healthcare professionals.
3. Administrative Duties: Record and update patient information accurately in electronic health records. Assist with appointment scheduling, prescription requests, and other administrative tasks.
4. Infection Control: Adhere to strict infection control protocols to maintain a clean and safe healthcare environment. Ensure compliance with hygiene and sanitation standards.
5. Patient Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, providing clear instructions and information. Offer support and reassurance to patients during their healthcare visits.
6. Collaboration with Healthcare Team: Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care. Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on patient care.
