Job summary

Veolia is seeking a Chempac Chemist in Falkirk for a 40-hour week. The role involves listing, packaging, labeling and assessing hazardous waste, collecting wastes from customer sites, sampling and managing spills, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• A degree or HNC in Chemistry (or relevant scientific qualification) and a valid UK driving licence are essential.
• Sound understanding of environmental legislation, hazardous waste regulations, and the ability to apply technical chemistry knowledge in practical, customer-focused situations.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, high level of literacy and numeracy, strong problem-solving abilities with a solutions-focused mindset, and meticulous attention to detail in documentation.

Responsibilities

• List, package, label and assess hazardous waste drums both at customer premises and our facilities, ensuring full compliance with road transport, special waste regulations and environmental legislation
• Collect wastes from customer sites, conduct site assessments for new enquiries, and maintain excellent customer relations while adhering to all site-specific rules and safety protocols
• Sample wastes, pump and re-drum leaking containers, manage spillage clearance, and provide expert technical knowledge to customers and colleagues
• Use IT systems to generate transport documents, complete labels accurately, and ensure swift processing of all paperwork including lists, receipts and transport documentation to meet customer expectations
• Supervise dangerous loads, maintain stock levels of routine supplies, comply with COSHH regulations and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and support transfer station operations when required
