Job Overview
Are you passionate about building, automating, and improving hardware systems? We're looking for a Hardware Technician who enjoys solving problems and getting things working - reliably and efficiently.
Our team manages a large-scale FPGA prototyping farm used to validate Arm's latest technologies. This role offers an opportunity to apply hands‑on engineering skills while working in a fast‑paced, innovative environment at the forefront of hardware development.
As a key member of a creative and highly technical team, you'll plan, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot the latest FPGA prototyping systems, working closely with leading EDA vendors and engineering teams across Arm. Your attention to detail, practical problem‑solving skills, and commitment to quality will play a vital role in enabling successful hardware validation.
Responsibilities

  • Build, install, configure, and debug FPGA prototyping systems within our data centres.
  • Generate, execute, and analyse system‑level diagnostic and validation tests.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and infrastructure issues, providing technical support to engineering teams.
  • Document standard operating procedures, best practices, and drive continuous improvements across multiple sites.
  • Manage shared FPGA data centre infrastructure, including inventory, tools, hardware assets, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve the scalability, reliability, and efficiency of the FPGA prototyping environment.
We're looking for someone who is curious, collaborative, and enjoys working with evolving hardware platforms and technical challenges. The ideal candidate is a proactive self‑starter who takes ownership of problems, works well with others, and knows when to seek input while driving issues to resolution.
This is a hands‑on role based across our Cambridge, Harlow, and Redhill labs and data centres. The role requires regular travel between Arm sites and data centres within the region and occasional travel within the UK. You'll be working in a dynamic environment that may include physical tasks and data centre activities.
Required Skills And Experience
  • Comfortable working from the Linux command line.
  • Good understanding of basic networking concepts and physical connectivity.
  • Familiarity with common cable and connector types and their appropriate use.
  • Ability to safely handle large or awkward system hardware, including occasional two‑person lifts.
  • Comfortable working in warm and noisy lab or data centre environments (appropriate PPE is provided).
  • Full UK driving licence (or ability to travel independently between Cambridge, Harlow, and Redhill sites as required).
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience:
Experience gained through work, university, or personal projects is equally valued. We'd love to hear if you have experience with:
  • Hardware validation, system integration, or lab automation.
  • Linux shell scripting (Bash, Python, or similar).
  • FPGA prototyping or FPGA development platforms.
  • Computer architecture, embedded systems, or FPGA fundamentals.
In Return:
At Arm, we believe in developing talent and supporting people to grow into their strengths. You'll enjoy a balanced and dynamic working environment, varied technical challenges, and the freedom to experiment, innovate, and continuously improve. You'll work alongside a friendly, passionate team that values collaboration, technical excellence, and creative problem‑solving while helping to deliver the next generation of Arm technology.
