Job summary

Renesas Electronics Corporation in Edinburgh is seeking a hands-on Lab Technician to support hardware development and evaluation activities across automotive, industrial, and IoT projects.

You will build, modify, and maintain PCBs and electronic hardware, keep the lab organised and compliant with processes, train engineers in soldering and lab tools, and coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of equipment and components.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of soldering techniques and principles.
• Experience with PCB assembly, rework, and modification.
• Familiarity with rework stations and lab equipment.
• Working knowledge of PCB schematics and layout tools (desirable).
• Hands-on capability with electronic hardware and bench tools.
• High attention to detail and quality workmanship.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks.
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced lab environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel).
• 3+ years relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on technical support to lab users.
• Build, modify, and maintain PCBAs and electronic hardware.
• Ensure the lab environment, equipment, and processes are organized and safe.
• Adhere to lab processes, guidelines, and best practices.
• Produce, assemble, and modify PCBs (prototype and low-volume builds).
• Perform rework, repairs, and one-off hardware modifications.
• Assist in commissioning and bring-up of evaluation boards.
• Maintain inventory of components and lab equipment.
• Ensure evaluation board stock is tracked and aligned with internal systems.
• Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors for equipment, PCBs, and components.
• Deliver soldering training and guidance to engineers.
• Provide practical support and advice on lab tools, processes, and best practices.
• Assist with preparation and shipment of evaluation kits.
