The Firmware/Hardware Engineer designs and develops analogue and digital circuits, programs FPGA functionality, produces all required production documentation, and performs design verification and tests. The position is based out of our facility near Birchwood, Warrington, and reports to the Design & Development Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop both analogue and digital circuits including schematic capture and PCB layouts utilizing high speed/low noise design techniques.
  • Design FPGA functionality implemented in VHDL.
  • Prepare parts lists and build materials, considering ease of manufacture and cost efficiency.
  • Verify designs using simulation and analytical tools.
  • Carry out prototype testing and analysis.
  • Develop production test specifications and procedures.
  • Support production with problem solving.
Experience
  • Good balance of theoretical and practical experience.
  • Proven FPGA/SoC design skills (Xilinx experience is an advantage).
  • Use of simulation and analytical tools to verify design solutions.
  • Experience with prototype testing and analysis.
  • Development of production test specifications and procedures.
  • Experience with microcontrollers.
  • Familiarity with basic communication protocols and standards such as RS232, RS485, SPI, I2C, UART.
  • Confident use of laboratory equipment for debugging purposes.
  • Knowledge of common CE standards.
  • Programming in C/C++.
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio and KiCad CAD.
Education
  • Degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering; MSc preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills: clear, confident, and persuasive.
  • Results-oriented; self-motivated and focused, with the ability to exert effort over time to achieve goals.
  • Critical thinking; strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to work systematically.
  • Highly adaptable; quick learner with attention to detail and decision-making under pressure.
  • Teamwork; good interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and customers.
  • Proficient IT skills, especially with Microsoft Office suite.
Compensation
  • Base annual salary: commensurate with experience.
  • 23 days of holiday per annum, plus 8 statutory holidays.
