Job summary

Nidec Drives is seeking an enthusiastic Hardware Engineer for its R&D department in the UK. The role focuses on applying technical and mathematical skills to troubleshoot and design advanced computer systems within a multiskilled team.

The successful candidate will work on significant projects, developing prototypes, and delivering clear technical documentation. Opportunities for growth and collaboration across disciplines are emphasized.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering or related field.
  • Ability to build prototypes, experiment on systems, and bench test.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication with all levels of management.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Submit reports analysing problems along with recommendations for improvements, creating blueprints of enhanced versions of existing and new systems.
  • Build or oversee the production and assembly of a prototype based on recommendations, test prototypes to ensure that the system operates according to specifications and make modifications for optimal results.
  • Select additional equipment to support production and write purchase orders or submit documentation to justify the recommendations for the specified equipment.
  • Store data pertaining to system functions and capabilities such as power supply requirements and user abilities.
  • Supervise and train technicians, designers and engineers and offer continuous technical support to team members.
  • Work to agreed timescales and project plans.
  • Daily interaction with engineers from multiple disciplines to ensure solutions are a good fit with the drive architecture.
  • Prepare concise and clear technical documentation and reports.
  • Presenting, discussing, and justifying design concepts and ideas.

Role Summary:

We are looking to hire an enthusiastic Hardware Engineer for our R&D department.

The Hardware Engineer will use their technical and applied mathematical skills for troubleshooting.

Based on the findings, they will also devise more advanced computer systems.

This role requires working as part of a larger team on significant projects or taking on smaller design challenges independently as and when required.
