Job summary

Adecco in Cambridge is seeking an experienced Acoustic Research Engineer to join a world-class team developing next-generation audio technologies for immersive consumer products and wearables.

You will work in state-of-the-art facilities, collaborating with engineers, researchers, and scientists to solve acoustics challenges in measurement, data analysis, and signal processing.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Acoustics, Audio Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and conducting acoustic experiments.
  • Proven use of acoustic measurement equipment and test setups.
  • Experience with Python and MATLAB for data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and improve acoustic measurement and data collection systems.
  • Conduct audio and acoustic experiments in controlled laboratories.
  • Plan and execute acoustic testing with microphones, speakers, and prototypes.
  • Develop tools and data acquisition workflows using Python, MATLAB.
  • Process and interpret large-scale audio datasets.
  • Document methods and experimental findings clearly.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Acoustic Research Engineer to join a world-class research and engineering team developing next-generation audio technologies for immersive consumer products and wearable devices.

This is a unique opportunity to work in a cutting-edge acoustic research environment featuring state-of-the-art facilities, including configurable acoustic spaces and specialist audio testing laboratories. You will collaborate with leading engineers and researchers to solve complex challenges in acoustics, audio signal processing, data acquisition, and experimental research.

The role is highly focused on acoustic measurement, data collection, audio signal analysis, and research engineering, supporting the development of innovative audio experiences for future technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and improve acoustic measurement and data collection systems.
  • Conduct audio and acoustic experiments within controlled laboratory environments.
  • Plan and execute acoustic testing using microphones, speakers, prototype devices, and human participants.
  • Develop tools, user interfaces, and data acquisition workflows using Python, MATLAB, and related technologies.
  • Process, analyse, and interpret large-scale audio datasets.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including research engineers, audio engineers, hardware engineers, and scientists.
  • Create robust methodologies for acoustic data collection and analysis.
  • Produce clear technical documentation and research reports.
  • Support ongoing improvements to experimental workflows, equipment, and measurement processes.
  • Apply problem-solving skills to new and previously unsolved acoustics challenges.
  • Master's degree in Acoustics, Audio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Signal Processing, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Industry experience within audio technology, acoustics research, or a related field.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and conducting acoustic experiments in laboratory environments.
  • Deep understanding of acoustics and audio signal processing.
  • Experience with acoustic measurement equipment, test systems, microphones, and loudspeaker-based setups.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and/or MATLAB.
  • Experience collecting, processing, and analysing audio data.
  • Ability to work independently within a fast-paced research environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of psychoacoustics, auditory perception, spatial audio, room acoustics, or physical acoustics.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch.
  • Experience working with prototype hardware devices.
  • Motion tracking system experience.
  • Large-scale automated data collection and analysis experience.
  • Experience designing and building acoustic laboratory environments.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary research and engineering teams.
