Hardware Design Engineer (Electrical Engineering), 1-4 years (Glasgow)

Overview

We believe HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) technology offers a sustainable solution for energy transfer over long distances, connecting electricity networks with minimal losses. It also helps improve power quality and stabilizes grids, especially for offshore wind power and underwater transmissions.

Role Description

As a Hardware Design Engineer at HVDC, you will design control cabinet layouts, including circuit boards for measurements, control, and calculations. Your work will involve user interfaces like HMI, diagnostic tools, and IT infrastructure, utilizing our in-house real-time platform MACH to meet industry standards.

Location

Glasgow, UK. Please note, visa support is not provided for this position.

Responsibilities
  1. Implement control and protection hardware solutions for HVDC/HVAC systems.
  2. Design cubicles and integrate hardware components.
  3. Create Bill of Materials, terminal diagrams, and coordinate with manufacturers.
  4. Prepare cable lists, schedules, and design documentation.
  5. Participate in design reviews and coordinate with stakeholders.
  6. Validate designs against specifications and standards.
  7. Support testing and site commissioning.
  8. Collaborate with internal and external teams, including international travel opportunities.
  9. Plan and organize daily work with problem-solving skills.
  10. Uphold Hitachi Energy’s safety and integrity values.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of control & protection panel design (CRP).
  • Site experience in testing and commissioning is a plus.
  • Technical coordination skills with suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Experience with CAD tools like Engineering Base or Ruplan is valuable.
  • EMC knowledge or experience with AC substations is a merit.
  • Right to work in the UK.
