Job summary

Home Group in Exeter is seeking a part-time handyman to support maintenance across properties. Based mainly at Prospect House with occasional duties at Northgate Court, you will carry out repairs, decorating, cleaning and safety checks to keep homes well maintained.

You will work flexibly (12 hpw) as part of a friendly team; a Standard DBS check is paid for. Benefits include a Health Cash Plan, pension contributions, and instant pay access through Stream.

Qualifications

• General maintenance know-how, including carpentry and basic plumbing.
• Comfortable working with a diverse range of people.

Responsibilities

• Perform minor or emergency repairs, decorating and cleaning in properties and communal areas.
• Hang curtain poles, move furniture, touch up paint, change washers, unblock sinks, mow lawns and clear grounds.
• Carry out regular fire safety checks.
• Work closely with colleagues, contractors and customers.
• Liaise with Customer Service Centre and contractors about repairs outside your remit.

We have a brilliant opportunity to join our fantastic team in Exeter. We are the multi skilled hands-on practical support that helps our colleagues deliver services to our customers.

We work with customers who have experienced homelessness, across a range of properties and grounds. As our handy person you’ll spend much of your time working at Prospect House in Exeter with occasional visits to our site in Northgate court.

Typical day

• Perform minor or emergency repairs, decorating and cleaning in properties and communal areas.
• Handle tasks like hanging curtain poles, moving furniture, touching up paint, changing washers, unblocking sinks, mowing lawns and clearing grounds.
• Carry out regular fire safety checks.
• Work closely with colleagues, contractors and customers
• Liaise with Customer Service Centre and contractors to report and follow up on repairs outside your remit.

Job details

• Permanent, part time (12 hpw). We mainly work flexible hours to be agreed at interview.
• You’ll be based at Prospects House in Exeter, you'll also provide support at another site within the local area as part of your role.
• Occasionally you’ll head outside the patch for all hands on deck situations.
• You’ll need a Standard DBS check done and we pay for that.
