Job summary

Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a practical Wheelchair & Mobility Equipment Assistant to join the East Berkshire Specialist Wheelchair Service on a temporary basis. You will work with Occupational Therapists and technicians to provide specialist equipment for adults and children with disabilities.

The role involves hands-on tasks, using hand tools, and stock management, with full training provided.

Qualifications

• Practical hands-on approach with confidence using hand tools.
• Good communication and empathetic attitude.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and manage tasks.
• Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
• Willingness to undertake role-specific training.

Responsibilities

• Support provision of wheelchairs and mobility equipment in clinics and patients’ homes with an Occupational Therapist.
• Assist with setting up, delivering and demonstrating wheelchairs, accessories and equipment.
• Assist with mechanical adjustments to wheelchairs after training and guidance.
• Help manage stock and ensure equipment is available to meet patient needs.
• Support safe moving and handling of patients and equipment.
• Collaborate with patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals in a caring and professional manner.
