Job summary

Forward Assist Recruitment is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer for a busy heavy manufacturing site in Billingham. This hands-on role focuses on fault-finding across electrical and mechanical systems to keep plant and equipment running safely and reliably.

Working a continental shift pattern, the position offers £59,500 including shift allowance plus regular overtime, in a permanent full-time role within a large-scale operation.

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship in Mechanical or Electrical Maintenance or equivalent qualification.
• Hands-on maintenance experience within industrial/manufacturing environments.
• Strong electrical and/or mechanical fault-finding ability.
• Experience diagnosing and responding to plant and machinery breakdowns.
• Ability to work safely and methodically within an industrial environment.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Responding to electrical and mechanical breakdowns and faults.
• Carrying out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across plant and equipment.
• Diagnosing faults logically and completing repairs to minimise downtime.
• Carrying out electrical installation work where required.
• Supporting maintenance and management of site electrical and control systems.
• Working with PLC and plant control systems.
• Ensuring maintenance activities meet safety and compliance requirements.
• Recording planned and reactive maintenance activity accurately.
• Liaising with third‑party contractors on site.
• Collaborating with engineering, production and other stakeholders.
