Job summary

Qualifications

• Experience of working with individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to secure or sustain accommodation.
• Knowledge of housing options available to clients at risk of homelessness.
• Experience working with vulnerable people in a variety of settings.
• Knowledge of the benefits system and how it interacts with housing support.
• Proven ability to use IT packages including standard Microsoft Office software.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional advice and support to individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
• Interview customers and provide tailored advice on prevention and accommodation options.
• Assess eligibility and housing needs to develop personalised housing plans.
• Prepare written documentation including housing plans and decision letters.
• Manage a caseload and undertake homelessness prevention work.
• Negotiate with landlords and other agencies to identified sustainable housing solutions.
• Advocate on behalf of clients with housing providers and statutory services.
• Visit clients in their homes or other locations to assess circumstances and future housing needs.
• Build relationships with clients, landlords, advice agencies and health and social care partners.
• Assist clients with paperwork and online forms to secure accommodation.
• Attend case conferences and multi-agency meetings when appropriate.
• Develop referral pathways and maintain partnerships with housing and support organisations.
