Interview date: Thursday 19 November 2026

The SEND Service is committed to improving outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, ensuring they and their families feel valued, supported and included within their communities. We put children and young people at the heart of everything we do, helping those with vision impairment develop the mobility, orientation and independent living skills they need to thrive, maximise their independence and fulfil their potential.

We are looking for a passionate and motivated Habilitation Specialist to join our dedicated team working across Wiltshire. In this rewarding role, you will work closely with Advisory Teachers to assess needs, design and deliver tailored habilitation programmes, and support children and young people with vision impairment in a variety of settings, including homes, nurseries, schools, colleges and community environments. You will play a vital role in helping young people gain confidence, navigate their surroundings safely and develop lifelong independence skills.

Working collaboratively with families, education providers, health professionals and other partners, you will monitor progress, adapt training programmes to meet individual needs and contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). You will also undertake environmental and access audits, provide specialist advice and deliver habilitation awareness training to those supporting the child or young person, helping to create inclusive and accessible environments where they can succeed.

We are seeking a qualified Habilitation specialist with either BSc (Hons) Qualified Habilitation Specialist (Children and Young People) or Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight Graduate Diploma Course at ULC Institute of Education (IOE), alternatively a qualified Vision Rehabilitation Specialist with a recognised Level 5 qualification and professional registration with Habilitation VI UK or the Rehabilitation Workers Professional Network (RWPN). If you have experience teaching mobility and independence skills, excellent communication and case management abilities, and a commitment to helping children and young people overcome barriers and achieve their ambitions, we would love to hear from you. Join us and make a lasting difference to the lives of children, young people and families across Wiltshire.
