Job summary

Kemp Recruitment Ltd is seeking a qualified GSE/HGV Technician to join a market-leading client in Edinburgh. The role involves maintaining GSE and large vehicles, diagnosing faults, and working to manufacturer guidelines in a busy workshop environment.

The ideal candidate will hold Level 3 Motor Mechanics qualification and a LGV/HGV Class 3 licence, with forklift desirable. 40 hours a week with shift pattern and on-call duties; pension, life assurance and private medical cover offered.

Qualifications

• Experience in maintaining and repairing GSE/LGV/HGV vehicles.
• Ability to diagnose faults and communicate work required clearly.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations in workshops.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain GSE and vehicles per manufacturer guidelines.
• Diagnose faults and report required work and parts.
• Complete inspections, brake and smoke tests, document defects.
• Update supervisor on additional work and parts needs.
• Manage parts issuance and correct booking in systems.
• Label and store parts, including warranties.
• Inform supervisor on completion of work.
• Work outdoors in varying weather; participate in on-call rota.

Job description

GSE/HGV Technician

Location: Edinburgh

Hours: 40 per week - 6am-2.30pm and 8am-4.30pm

£DOE

On call 1 week in 4 to cover the weekend-if called out they get 4 hours at x 1.5

About your new company:

My client, a market leading company who have been in business for over 35 years, are looking for a Vehicle Technician to join their team in Paisley. The ideal candidate must have a Level 3 Qualifications in either HGV, LCV or PSV and have experience of repairing and maintaining large vehicles.

Key Responsibilities for this GSE/HGV Technician role:

• Carry out repair and maintenance of GSE and associated vehicles in line with company standards and manufacturer guidelines.
• Diagnose faults accurately and communicate required work and parts to the Workshop Supervisor before commencing repairs.
• Complete inspections, brake tests and smoke tests, identifying and reporting defects prior to repair.
• Ensure all job cards and inspection sheets are completed accurately to the current stage of repair, including non-productive time.
• Update the Workshop Supervisor promptly on additional work, parts requirements or vehicle-on-road (VOR) issues.
• Present work orders to Stores to enable parts issue and ensure all parts are correctly booked using the provided systems and iPad.
• Label, segregate and store parts correctly, including warranty and exchange units.
• Inform the Workshop Supervisor immediately upon completion of work.
• Quarantine, label and report defective tools, equipment or parts without delay.
• Work independently outdoors in varying weather conditions when required.
• Participate in an out-of-hours rota in line with the on-call policy

Skills and Knowledge required for the GSE/HGV Technician

• Proven experience in vehicle maintenance, ideally within GSE, LGV or HGV environments.
• Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to diagnose and resolve faults efficiently.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations within a workshop environment.
• Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to quality and service delivery.
• Electrical and hydraulic experience (desirable).
• Experience working in a customer-facing or operational environment.

Qualifications required for the GSE/HGV Technician

• Level 3 Motor Mechanics qualification (LGV).
• LGV / HGV Class 3 licence (essential).
• Forklift licence (desirable).
