Job summary

Tristram Plants in West Sussex is seeking a Grower / Trainee Grower to join our horticulture team at Binsted Nursery. This permanent, full-time role runs a minimum of 39 hours per week with a salary from £25,857 to £28,007 plus overtime, depending on experience.

You will grow crops, monitor care (watering, spraying, fertiliser), and help maintain production records to ensure targets and quality. Start date January 2027; interviews begin in October.

Qualifications

• Practical horticultural knowledge or experience is beneficial.
• Organised with good attention to detail, and able to follow instructions.
• A passion for horticulture and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Growing and maintaining crops to meet quality, quantity and time targets, including plant care and treatments.
• Liaising with staff and guiding a small team when required, ensuring safety and targets are met.

Salary Range: from £25,857 to £28,007 (plus overtime) paid hourly depending on experience and ability
Responsible to: Technical Manager

What You’ll Do

• Growing Mastery: Grow and maintain crops of good quality, ensuring quality, quantity, and time targets are met. You’ll prioritise and monitor plant care (watering, bio-control, spraying, fertiliser) to meet strict production standards.
• Team work: Liaise with other staff and teams on site. Instruct and direct a small team when required and ensuring targets are met. Ensure safe working practices are followed.
• Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with health and safety standards while working closely with your team to maintain a safe, efficient, and productive work environment.
• Administrative Tasks: Oversee regular stock checks, maintain production records, and support the smooth flow of communication within the team and across departments.
