Job summary

LHC Procurement Group seeks a Group Governance and Risk Manager to drive governance, risk, and compliance across the organisation. You will work closely with the Board and Senior Leadership Team to shape processes and ensure statutory and regulatory adherence.

You will own governance policy, support board development, manage records and external advisers, and assume the Data Protection Officer responsibilities to safeguard data protection, privacy, and DPIA activities.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record in governance within a corporate environment.
  • Experience supporting Boards and Committees with governance processes.
  • Strong knowledge of UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.

Responsibilities

  • Provide governance advice to the Board and Senior Leaders guiding compliance and governance delivery across the organisation.
  • Support Board development through induction, engagement, succession planning and performance review activity.
  • Maintain governance records including conflicts of interest, tenure, appointments and decision trails.
  • Manage relationships with external governance and legal advisers.
  • Embed risk management and mitigation across multi-site operations with clear responsibilities.
  • Oversee corporate governance policy suite and assurance activities.
  • Act as Data Protection Officer and oversee UK GDPR compliance, ROPA and DPIA processes.
  • Serve as primary contact for privacy enquiries.

Job description

As our Group Governance and Risk Manager, you will play a pivotal role in enabling our mission to improve lives and places, ensuring that LHCPG operates with transparency, integrity and accountability to reflect our values across our business in support of the communities we serve.

Working closely with the Board and Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will take ownership of a broad governance remit, with genuine scope to shape practice and improve the processes, systems and ways of working that underpin excellent governance across LHCPG. You will ensure that all areas of our business are supported to understand and adhere to statutory and regulatory requirements.

The role involves:

  • Providing authoritative and practical governance advice to the Board and Senior Leaders helping them fulfil their mandatory obligations and ensuring an effective governance framework in practice - from decision-making through to delivery - across the whole organisation
  • Supporting Board development through induction, engagement, successionplanning and performance review activity
  • Maintaining accurate governance records, including conflicts of interest, tenure, appointments and decision trails
  • Managing relationships with external governanceand legal advisers
  • Embedding a clear, practical approach to risk management and mitigation, ensuring every team across our multi-site operation is clear on their responsibilities and takes informed decisions
  • Owning and overseeing the corporate governance policy suite and ensuring all necessary processes are in place to deliver strong governance, audit and assurance oversight
  • As the Data Protection Officer, maintain UK GDPR compliance, ROPA and DPIA processes, IT, digital and security policies
  • Serving as the main contact for any privacy enquiries

What we’re looking for:

Your proven track record in a highly commercial, agile and fast paced corporate environment playing a key role in shaping and leading governance and risk management will enable you to demonstrate strong capability in applying appropriate models of governance to a customer-focused, service provider in the highly competitive procurement sector. You will be an established governance professional who operates confidently with senior stakeholders while maintaining independence, discretion and sound judgement. The role has line management responsibility for one direct report.

Experience gained in a proactive Company Secretariat or Governance function within a highly professional and demanding environment is vital, accompanied ideally with knowledge and experience of the specific requirements of the not-for-profit and charity sector. A proven track record of providing high-quality governance support and trusted advice to Boards and Committees is essential.

You will also bring:

  • A recognised governance qualification
  • A high level of IT literacy, adept with all aspects of MS Office suite
  • Strong Board and committee skills, including preparing papers, reports, minutes and decision records
  • A track record of success in designing, implementing and embedding agile governance and assurance frameworks
  • Experience of leading the full internal audit cycle and using assurance activity to strengthen organisational performance
  • Successful track record in leading risk management frameworks and maintaining risk registers
  • Capability to manage organisation-wide policies and business systems to ensure strong governance and compliance
  • Experience in a Data Protection Officer role, with sound knowledge of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018
  • Strategic thinking capability and sound judgement to lead through complexity and ambiguity
  • Well-developed organisation skills to handle competing priorities and operate effectively as an advisor at senior executive level and to the Board
