The opportunity
I’m recruiting for a FTSE-listed international group seeking a Group Financial Reporting Director to take ownership of group financial accounting, technical reporting and a significant finance transformation agenda.
This is a senior, high-profile appointment within a large, global and acquisitive business, with a complex multi-entity structure, a dual accounting calendar and a strong focus on reporting quality and governance. Reporting into the senior finance leadership team, you’ll have regular exposure to the CFO and Audit Committee, with the opportunity to influence both the Group’s reporting strategy and the future direction of its finance function.
Alongside ownership of the Group’s financial reporting and technical accounting agenda, you’ll lead key transformation initiatives, including implementing new IFRS standards and the introduction of a new group consolidation tool. This is an opportunity to combine deep technical expertise with genuine change leadership, improving the quality, efficiency and scalability of the Group’s reporting infrastructure.
You’ll be the senior authority on group financial accounting, ensuring the integrity of the numbers while driving improvements in systems, processes and controls across an international business.
Where you’ll make an impact
Group reporting, close and consolidation
- Own the monthly, quarterly and year-end close, driving a disciplined reporting timetable, robust governance and high-quality outputs.
- Lead multi-currency IFRS consolidation across a complex group structure, including intercompany accounting, eliminations and foreign exchange translation.
- Review and challenge the Group balance sheet and P&L, ensuring reconciliations, accounting judgements and supporting evidence meet the highest standards.
- Drive consistency and accuracy across group reporting, statutory accounts and external disclosures.
Technical accounting and policy
- Own the Group accounting manual, policies and technical accounting framework, ensuring they remain fit for purpose as the business evolves.
- Lead the Group’s position on complex accounting matters, including revenue recognition, business combinations, impairment, leases, provisions, financial instruments and foreign exchange.
- Lead the implementation of a new IFRS standard, assessing its implications for the Group, coordinating stakeholders and ensuring the required accounting and reporting changes are embedded effectively.
- Own the assessment and implementation of new and amended IFRS standards, advising the CFO and Audit Committee on material implications.
- Prepare and defend technical accounting position papers, working closely with external auditors to reach clear, robust conclusions.
Finance transformation and systems
- Lead the implementation of a new group consolidation tool, from requirements and solution design through to implementation, testing, controls and business adoption.
- Drive improvements across the group reporting and record-to-report processes, focusing on standardisation, automation, data quality and reporting efficiency.
- Partner with technology, finance transformation and regional finance teams to simplify complex processes and build a more scalable reporting model.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, reduce manual intervention and improve the speed and accuracy of financial reporting.
- Ensure transformation initiatives translate into sustainable improvements in the Group’s reporting capability, rather than simply introducing new systems and processes.
Audit, governance and external reporting
- Lead the relationship with external auditors across audit planning, technical matters, findings and final sign-off.
- Oversee the annual report and results reporting cycle, ensuring accurate, timely and high-quality external disclosures.
- Prepare and present papers covering significant accounting judgements and reporting matters to the Audit Committee and senior stakeholders.
- Strengthen the Group’s control environment, working with Internal Audit and Risk to address findings and embed consistent standards across entities.
Leadership and commercial partnership
- Lead, coach and develop a team of qualified accountants, building capability, accountability and succession depth.
- Set standards for statutory reporting across subsidiaries and work with regional finance leaders to improve consistency and quality.
- Partner with Treasury, Tax, Legal and Investor Relations on financing, disclosures and significant corporate transactions.
- Provide technical leadership on M&A, including due diligence, acquisition accounting and post-deal integration.
- Build strong relationships across the wider business, providing clear, pragmatic advice on complex accounting matters and their commercial implications.
About you
