Job summary

Harvey Nash Group in Birmingham is recruiting a Group Financial Controller to own a broad and commercially focused finance function. The role covers financial reporting, forecasting, compliance, cashflow management, payroll oversight and business partnering with senior leaders, reporting to the Board.

You will oversee audits, R&D tax credits, and drive finance transformation and ERP migration while improving controls and efficiency across the function.

Qualifications

• ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent qualification.
• Strong experience in financial control, reporting and analysis.
• Experience partnering with senior stakeholders and leadership teams.
• Excellent understanding of financial compliance and governance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using finance systems and reporting tools.
• Continuous improvement mindset with process optimisation.
• Experience in tech/software/fast-paced commercial environments advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare bi-annual forecasts and support business planning activities.
• Produce and present monthly management accounts.
• Analyze KPIs, trends and business performance with departmental managers.
• Lead annual audit process and manage external auditor relationships.
• Oversee R&D tax credit claims.
• Manage quarterly bonus calculations and payroll processes.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.
• Approve internal purchases and maintain accurate ledger coding.
• Monitor daily cashflow and oversee payment schedules.
• Review debtor performance and support resolution of queries.
• Lead and support finance transformation initiatives.
• Oversee ERP migration and system improvements.

Group Financial Controller

Birmingham | £60,000 - £75,000

Are you a qualified finance professional looking to take ownership of a broad and commercially focused finance function?

We're partnering with a growing and innovative business to recruit a Group Financial Controller who will play a key role in driving financial performance, supporting strategic decision-making, and improving operational efficiency across the organisation.

Reporting directly to the Board, you'll take responsibility for financial reporting, forecasting, compliance, cashflow management, payroll oversight, and business partnering with leaders across the company. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining hands-on financial control with strategic input and process improvement.

What You'll Be Doing

Financial Management & Reporting

• Prepare bi-annual forecasts and support business planning activities.
• Produce and present monthly management accounts.
• Analyse KPIs, trends and business performance, working closely with departmental managers.
• Lead the annual audit process and manage external auditor relationships.
• Oversee R&D tax credit claims.
• Manage quarterly bonus calculations and payroll processes.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.

Operational Finance

• Approve internal purchases and maintain accurate ledger coding.
• Manage insurance renewals and broker relationships.
• Monitor daily cashflow and oversee payment schedules.
• Review debtor performance and support the resolution of outstanding queries.

Business Improvement & Projects

• Lead and support finance transformation initiatives.
• Oversee the implementation and migration to a new ERP system.
• Identify opportunities to improve controls, processes and efficiencies across the finance function.

About You

We're looking for a proactive and commercially minded finance professional who can balance attention to detail with strategic thinking.

You'll ideally have:

• ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification.
• Strong experience in financial control, reporting and analysis.
• Experience partnering with senior stakeholders and leadership teams.
• Excellent understanding of financial compliance and governance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using finance systems and reporting tools.
• A continuous improvement mindset with a focus on process optimisation.
• Previous experience within a technology, software, engineering, or fast-paced commercial environment would be advantageous.
