Huntress in London is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to oversee day-to-day finance operations, strengthen controls, and support ERP implementation. You will lead a small finance team, manage month-end close, profitability reporting and VAT/compliance.

You'll bring ACA/ACCA or equivalent, with SME or professional services experience, and a proactive approach to improving processes. Hybrid working, three days in the office, and a supportive, employee-owned environment.

Qualifications

• ACA/ACCA or equivalent qualification.
• Experience as Financial Controller, or ready to step up from Senior Finance Manager.
• SME or professional services background with solid WIP, project accounting and project profitability.
• Experience leading a small finance team and overseeing month-end, management accounts, VAT and financial controls.
• Experience managing payroll processes and supporting audit requirements.
• Advanced Excel skills and hands-on ERP experience; knowledge of UNIT ERPx advantageous.

Financial Controller

£70,000-£75,000 + Bonus

Hybrid working - 3 days in the office

An established, employee-owned planning and development consultancy is looking for a Financial Controller to oversee its day-to-day finance operations and help drive the finance function forward. Working closely with the Head of Finance, you'll lead a small team, while improving financial reporting, strengthening controls and supporting the implementation of a new ERP system.

Experience within an SME or professional services environment, particularly with WIP and project accounting, is essential for this role.

What You'll Be Doing

• Financial reporting: Lead the month-end close across UK entities, prepare monthly management accounts and ensure accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
• Project accounting: Oversee WIP, project costs, revenue and profitability, ensuring financial performance is accurately monitored and reported.
• Planning and analysis: Support budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis, providing meaningful insight to senior stakeholders.
• Team leadership: Lead, coach and develop the finance operations team across billing, credit control and accounts payable.
• Financial controls: Manage quarterly VAT returns, oversee outsourced payroll and related tax submissions, and coordinate audit activity.
• Systems and improvement: Support the implementation of a new ERP system, improve reporting accuracy and identify opportunities to streamline processes and increase automation.

About You

You'll be a hands-on, commercially minded finance professional who is comfortable balancing technical responsibilities with team leadership and continuous improvement.

You’ll ideally have:

• ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualification, or significant relevant experience.
• Previous Financial Controller experience, or be a strong Senior Finance Manager ready to step up.
• An SME or professional services background, with solid experience in WIP, project accounting and project profitability.
• Experience leading a small finance team and overseeing month-end, management accounts, VAT and financial controls.
• Experience managing payroll processes and supporting audit requirements.
• Advanced Excel skills and hands-on ERP experience; knowledge of UNIT EPRx would be advantageous.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with a proactive approach to solving problems and improving processes.
