Purpose of this role
Based in Athora’s London office, this new role offers the right candidate a unique opportunity to work as part of the Athora Group Credit & Investment Risk Team.
The Group Risk function is expanding to meet the requirements of Athora’s future business growth. This person will be in a team supporting the implementation of the Group Internal Credit Assessment methodology by assessing the fundamental credit risks underlying the Group credit investment exposures. They will work in close collaboration with the external asset manager, as well as the actuarial, valuation and financial controlling teams.
Key Contribution Areas
Deliver internal credit rating assessments for private credit assets
Support the running of Group Credit Assessment Forum by preparing and presenting credit memoranda for approval by senior members of the business
Support, shape and help with the implementation of the Group Internal Credit Assessment methodology
Manage and maintain the internal rating database, including preparation and planning for assets required to be rated in upcoming quarters
Support with the maintenance and updating of the Private Asset Watchlist
Preparation of detailed credit and investment management information used to support monthly committee meetings
Support in providing pre-trade, investment risk review and challenge across the private asset space
Support in private asset valuation review and challenge
Implement improvements to existing processes, including enhancements to data quality and flows
Deliver impactful ad-hoc reporting; support with ad-hoc requests from around the business

Experience working within insurance, risk management or investment management in a business environment
Functional or Technical Knowledge and Skill Required
Advanced qualifications reflective of a high degree of numeracy
Experience and understanding of corporate credit exposures, fundamental credit analysis and credit ratings
Experience reading and using financial statements, management accounts and other financial reporting
Ability to uncover key credit and investment risks and query these with the external asset manager and valuations team
Ability to use investment data sources and tools (e.g. Bloomberg, UBS Delta) and working tools (e.g. credit rating scorecards, MS Office applications); high proficiency in MS Excel for data manipulation and modelling
Familiarity of EU Solvency II (preferably also Bermuda Monetary Authority) regulations is helpful but not necessary
Familiarity with insurance products is also helpful but not necessary
Willingness to travel
